Historia
It took little more than a single generation for the centuries-old Roman Empire to fall. In those critical decades, while Christians and pagans, legions and barbarians, generals and politicians squabbled over dwindling scraps of power, two men—former comrades on the battlefield—rose to prominence on opposite sides of the great game of empire. Roman general Flavius Stilicho, the man behind the Roman throne, dedicated himself to restoring imperial glory, only to find himself struggling for his life against political foes.

EXCELLENT
Revisado: 01-17-25
A surprisingly detailed account of the causes, buildup and aftermath of the Gothic invasion of Rome. Extremely well written, even poetic at times, but never flowery or superfluous. If you have any interest in Stilicho, Alaric or Late Antiquity, you’ll really enjoy this book.

Historia
From the author of Caligula comes a new stand-alone novel in the Damned Emperors series: Commodus. AD 162. Rome is enjoying a period of stability and prosperity. The Empire's bounds are increasing, and two sons are born into the imperial succession for the first time in nearly a century. But all is not as it appears - cracks are beginning to show. The wars have rumbled on too long, and there are whispers of a sickness in the East. Just 30 years later, the Empire will be caught up in civil war, the imperial dynasty ended and Rome burned.

In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Historia
Edward Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire painted a portrait of the Roman Empire in a long, debilitating slide to oblivion, but now historians have reevaluated this picture to create a radically different understanding of the period now known as "late antiquity." Far from being a period of decline and fall, late antiquity marked one of history's great turning points.

Lots of Opinions
Revisado: 06-14-21
The lecturer seems solely focused on proving that Late Antiquity is "better" than other time periods. Most of the first lecture is just him opining on how unfair other authors are to his favorite period. Very disappointing.

Historia
This guide will guide you to the right knowledge about all the historical details you need to know about Nero, Caligula, Hadrian, Commodus, Constantine the Great, Caracalla, Marcus Aurelius, Julius Caesar, Augustus, and others. Some were pure evil, abusive, and sheer dictators with their own self-interest that was their only focus. Others had the best intentions for the empire. These emperors left their mark on the people, the history of the entire empire, and the cultural influence the Romans had on us.

Not only was the audio recording quality awful, but the narrator sounds like a teenager and struggles with the pronunciation of the names. Couldn't get through it.

Historia
Thomas Paine was one of the greatest political propagandists in history. The Rights of Man, first published in 1791, is the key to his reputation. Inspired by his outrage at Edmund Burke's attack on the uprising of the French people, Paine's text is a passionate defense of the rights of man. Paine argued against monarchy and outlined the elements of a successful republic, including public education, pensions, and relief of the poor and unemployed, all financed by income tax.

I've been listening to Jocko on his podcast and thers for a while now, but I didn't truly understand what he was talking about until I listened to the book. I love how he and Leif first illustrate the given lesson in an extreme combat situation, then re-apply that lesson to a nore common business setting to show that the principle is universal. I'm immediately going to re-listen.

This book is absolutely a must-read for any artist who is beginning to monetize their art, or even old dogs like me who have been at it for a while and are seeking ways to improve! Lots of great tips and hacks, but the real reason to read is for the overall philosophies toward supporting yourself with your art, design, photography, crafts, or whatever it is that you happen to do.
