Historia
Alfred and Samantha Aimes and their plucky family prepare and survive in a post-economic collapse world. As the world careens towards nuclear and economic disaster, Alfred, acting on his instincts, awakens and becomes a prepper. After four US cities are destroyed with nuclear weapons, the US economy crumbles and the family struggles to survive in a world where food shortages, looting, rioting, and a deadly breakdown of the social order has become the norm. Good story
Revisado: 08-23-24
It’s a good story but I will say that the story just continues to pound in the corrupt politicians and corporations ruined the society with their hubris til your eyes start to roll the first couple chapters just hammer this and then it seem every couple chapters a character has to reflect for a moment on the way that once again corrupt politicians and corporations only looking out for themselves ruined the country. I just started skipping ahead a little til the diatribe was over and continue with the story. I will definitely be continuing with this series.

Historia
Jim Wyatt had always said that if everything fell apart, he didn’t want to just survive - he didn’t want to notice. When the world did crash, his family’s home of Stonemont became not only a refuge, but a place where it might be possible to start over again, and reclaim the American ideal. Among the many novels in the SHTF/TEOTWAWKI genre, The Reversion stands apart – and, perhaps, alone. It does not follow the survival learning curve of the unprepared or minimally-prepared, as so many excellent books have already done so well. Rather, it is the story of a man who was prepared, and ...

Kind of boring
Revisado: 08-19-24
Not much happened in this book except a lot of character dialogue about civics and morality lessons about how things should be in a Christian society. The book is really more of a critique of American society, dressed up as a story. The heavy-handed nature of the way the author continues to push their views on society at some point just feels way too sanctimonious. It started off fairly well, but I had a real tough time finishing it because of the over use of the preaching. Towards the end, I just had a feeling that the author avoided having any real action in the book because it would’ve taken away from his opportunity to have two characters discuss how people should not be given free handouts, and what constitutes a marriage and how the US justice system was a farce

Great story
Revisado: 01-23-24
I’m new to 40k and this was my first book and I have to say it was a great first start. I’m still learning about the universe but this story was easy to follow and engaging. The narrator was excellent and I’m looking forward to my next book

Historia
Jason Sterling had a simple life by all accounts. He had worked the same job his entire adult life, he had never married, and he had no children. He was used to doing things on his own. His comfortable life was shaken to the core the day he learned of his fathers death. It was a mysterious meeting that set life-altering events in motion, and the allure of a new life was too great to walk away from. When an electromagnetic pulse brings the modern world to its knees, Jason's choice proves to be the right one.

Should have listen to the bad reviews
Revisado: 11-12-23
With so many good reviews I ignored the bad ones even though the points they brought up were concerning. They were pretty much correct but I didn’t find that the story over descriptive of every object like some had stated The setup wasn’t as unbelievable even though pretty unlikely, but the main downfall was dialogue and characters. The dialogue was just brutal and eye rolling especially the romance parts were just so young teen romance. The supporting characters were so surface level just there to literally tell the main character he is so smart and bad ass. The main guy is surprisingly not a former seal sniper but that doesn’t stop him from being the best at everything. Well the best right behind his supergirl girlfriend who beats him in shooting and hand to hand and is totally cool headed unless the story requires her to do something crazy to create some drama. This brings up another negative of the reviews that is correct action is lacking. The event doesn’t even start til you are almost a third way into the book and after that it’s a few small incidents. I saw one review and it struck me as I read the book that it does have him take a shower like dozen or more times and I can’t count the times he got a couple of coffees and they talked for half an hour or more. The book had a lot of promise and based on the number of sequels clearly a lot of people like it. I can forgive a lot of the regular tropes bc i like the genre including the part where the group are driving five ton tactical trucks with night vision during a new moon 70 mph down a highway full of stalled cars with as far as was told to is they were never trained to do since nobody had military experience. But in the end the characters I just don’t care about they are not that likeable or interesting.

Historia
It was a split-second operation as delicate and as deadly as a time bomb. It demanded the concentrated devotion and vigilance of more than six hundred men for every hour, every day, and every night for more than a year. With only their bare hands and crude homemade tools, they sank shafts, built underground railroads, forged passports, drew maps, faked weapons, and tailored German clothes.

Being fan of the movie wanted to get the real story and this book did not disappoint. The facts of the story are put forth without much embellishment giving the story a nice pace. The narrator voice was pleasant making it a easy listen.

Historia
In the 1970s and thru the mid-1980s, the Chicago Outfit was the dominant organized crime family in Las Vegas, with business interests in several casinos. During those years the Outfit and its colleagues in Kansas City, Milwaukee, and Cleveland were using Sin City as a cash cow. Commonly referred to as the “skim,” unreported revenue from Outfit-controlled casinos was making its way out of Vegas by the bag full and ending up in the coffers of the crime bosses in those four locations.

Just ok
Revisado: 01-28-23
This really is surface level stories with a time line that jumps around so there is no sense of flow. Many characters get five minutes or more of back story about birth and growing up to only be mentioned in the actual story for less than a minute. The book feels like you are getting a bunch of individual short stories tied together with some Wikipedia knowledge. The Skim , Spilotro, and Rosenthal all seem like minor characters in this book. It’s hard to explain but a trailer for the movie Casino would give you more pertinent information than this book.

Battle Cry of Freedom vividly traces how a new nation was forged when a war both sides were sure would amount to little dragged for four years and cost more American lives than all other wars combined. Narrator Jonathan Davis powerful reading brings to life the many voices of the Civil War.

Excellent Book
Revisado: 12-11-20
This is a excellent book on the causes and politics of the Civil War. Great detail is covered in the prewar causes and political maneuvering that led up to hostilities. This same kind of detail goes into the two sides dealing with European powers as well as competing factions on their own sides. This is not a book of battles as it only gives a broad overview of the major battles and campaigns. Instead it focuses more on how those battles effected the feeling of the people back home, responses from the politicians, and the commanding generals standing with the troops and people.
