Pretty good - the sound effects can go though
Revisado: 04-12-25
Was a bit predictable compared to Sarah’s other books, but what I didn’t love was the musical additions between chapters and the random sound effects. Why is there the sound of a door opening only sometimes? The inconsistency of them made it feel awkward and forced.

Excellent! Ignore the Negative Reviews!
Revisado: 03-21-25
I almost didn’t listen to this because of the negative reviews that described the book as confusing because it switches back-and-forth between the past and the present. A few reviewers also said that there was too much detail about things like music instruments, and cinematography. I didn’t feel like any of those things were true.
The amount of detail was perfect, and you certainly don’t need a notebook to keep track of the cast of characters. Yes there are a few different main protagonists, but it’s very easy to keep track of them throughout the story.
I really enjoyed this and found it very suspenseful and incredibly engaging. I would read 100 more books just like The Cut if I could just find them! Extra kudos that it was available on Audible Plus!

Historia
Juliet only wanted to see her childhood home one more time–to look at it from the street. She never intended to meet the new owners, let alone talk her way into a position as their new live-in nanny. But it's too late now to tell the truth about who she really is. Six-year-old Kitty has progressive mutism and cannot speak. Nobody knows why she keeps making silent phone calls to the police. Juliet makes it her mission to find out. As Juliet settles into the house, nostalgia for her childhood gives way to uneasiness, as troubling memories surface.

Beautifully complex and intriguing storyline! I absolutely loved this book, and was delightfully surprised at the fact that it didn’t have a typical plot with one twist to the story, but instead a variety of depth and twists the entire story through. I found this book on Audible plus, but I’ll be immediately looking to see anything this author has written and listening to it! Great narration as well!!!

Historia
From Lauren Graham, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, comes a witty, charming, and hilariously relatable debut novel about a struggling young actress trying to get ahead - and keep it together - in New York City. It’s January 1995, and Franny Banks has just six months left of the three-year deadline she set for herself when she came to New York, dreaming of Broadway and doing "important" work. But all she has to show for her efforts so far is a part in an ad for ugly Christmas sweaters, and a gig waiting tables at a comedy club....

Great Stories!
Revisado: 10-07-24
This is a collection of different women’s stories during the WW2 era, each of which show the courage and determination to actually make things happen and create change. It’s frustrating that even today those traits continue to somehow be seen as threatening to a lot of men, when as women we can do so much good.
I enjoyed the wide spectrum of areas and ways that the women in these stories had an impact. From spies to pilots to cartographers - these women were pretty kick ass!

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Exceptional!
Revisado: 10-03-24
I have read many of the non-fiction personal accounts of WW2 and the Holocaust, and this book is truly exceptional. The awe inspiring faith and hope and truly charitable love of this entire family is an incredible example of lifting up those around us — at whatever the personal cost.
Regardless of age, experience, or faith — this book is truly a MUST read.

Historia
The "maddog" murderer who is terrorizing the Twin Cities is two things: insane and extremely intelligent. He kills for the pleasure of it and thoroughly enjoys placing elaborate obstacles to keep police befuddled. Each clever move he makes is another point of pride. But when the brilliant Lieutenant Lucas Davenport, a dedicated cop and a serial killer's worst nightmare, is brought in to take up the investigation, the maddog suddenly has an adversary worthy of his genius.

Interesting, but Misogynistic
Revisado: 09-04-24
Overall the storyline is good. Missing some aspects such as the overall motive of the killer and character development. The overall tone about women is a bit misogynistic, the only female characters in the book exist to further the ego of the main protagonist which was unappealing. I understand this book was written awhile ago when women had yet to break through into many major leadership roles especially within the police force, but it still felt a little gross to listen to their objectification.

Margot and James are broken up—for good this time. James made sure of it when he dropped the bomb on Margot: that he doesn’t want kids, ever. Then, on the biggest morning of his life, James—an ambitious lawyer at a high-powered firm—wakes up pregnant. He realizes with dread that he is part of a recent epidemic of men suddenly and inexplicably becoming pregnant. His condition obvious to the higher-ups, James is denied the promotion he was expecting, sending him reeling.

Sure wish there was even more to this. Props to the author and to Audible for both making this happen and for the author donating the money. So unfortunate that America has regressed in defending women’s rights rather than continuing to progress.

Really Intriguing
Revisado: 08-26-24
I had no idea what this book was about when I downloaded it, but I loved it. It’s kinda a story within a story within a story, but the various narrators and their accents did an awesome job of helping to distinguish between characters and follow the plot. Not only is this book incredibly interesting, but one of the storylines features a Jewish family whose life was fully upended during the German Nazi occupation of Poland during WW2.
Having visited two concentration camps myself, one of them being Auschwitz, I have a great interest in this incredibly tragic history and the impact it had on our world both then and now.
Yes, this is long. But just like the best books - it will keep your attention entirely throughout as you can’t help wanting to know what happens next.
I’ll be looking for more books by this author immediately - I loved her style of writing!
