Historia
Back in Pickax, Jim Qwilleran expects to resume a quiet life, but the people and animals of Pickax have other ideas. A noisy cardinal wakes him every morning. Nosy neighbors drop by uninvited, and the Siamese misbehave, even sneezing on guests. As if they weren't bad enough, Qwill's long-time companion acts as though she is in love, with another man. But worst of all, Qwill finds a body in his apple orchard.

Brighton Longfield is kinda bad at life. She's divorced, childless, and she just got fired...again. With dwindling savings and few prospects, she packs her possessions into a U-Haul and sets out for the little town of Coventry, where she inherited a dilapidated old house from her Great Aunt "Mad" Maude Tuttlesmith. Coventry is supposed to be a stop in the road for Brighton. The plan is to fix up the house, sell it, and then figure out what to do with her life. You know what they say about the best-laid plans.

THORNE'S BLUE EYES
Revisado: 07-20-24
🧿🧿
WHAT'S THE STORY ABOUT ANYWAY?
it's about a young woman who discovers that she is a witch, she has moved to a very woke town called Covington, and is renovating her recently croaked mad Aunts home,
name of which proudly be, Hangman's House
TONE OF BOOK
If you like Kenny G
or Kenny Loggins CD Unimaginable Life, you'll like this book
it's about a 9 and 3/4 on the mellow scale
the ✨ magical mellow scale
not dark at all.
the tone is light and upbeat
it's an interesting take on how in 2024 witches, magic
and the occult are evolving
by merging with spirituality and the original sourcerors
CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS
I really liked it when she described Thorne.
I really like that he has blue eyes.
I really like that he is kind of a bad boy.
I really like that he secretly harbors feelings for Brighton!
MERRIE THE CAT
be nice to have your own familiar wouldn't it?
personally my familiar would be a cute little white fluffy dog!
I loved it when the author first brought Merrie into the picture
she described the cat as big as a cougar.
I got a visual of a big black malevolent cougar when she wrote that.
this book is chock full of fun zany difficult lovable scary very human people
very human people who Believe themselves to be magical and witches
writing this book took real imagination on the author's part
I REALLY LIKE THE WAY THEY BRING MAGIC INTO THE STORY
I love that the house is magical and is completely adoringly capable of catering to Brightons every whim
I like that one of the witches in the story just does everything with her mind
The concept of magic is not dissimilar to what we are capable of doing with our minds, and that concept was brought into the storyline as well
VIBE OF THE BOOK
I really like the open-minded and out of the box thinking that it takes to be a witch
at times,
due to genetics or DNA, or magically bestowed birth gifts, or maybe, just maybe it is just your extremely strong intention on coming in, to remain YOURSELF.
these witches are in tune with basic laws of spirituality at times, other times they're just like anybody else with an ancient blood feud
did I mention there's an ancient blood feud going on!
well there is, just saying.
CUTTING EDGE CONCEPT
I really like the vibe the town gives off as being right up to speed with the power of the paranormal, the occult and non-physical intelligence
ascribing to the teachings of a certain teacher as I do,
some of the vibes and magic that Bourgeois speaks of are simply manifestations of a person being in alignment with source energy
I LIKE THAT BRIGHTON HAS TWO LOVE OPTIONS
one in a tall slender magical soul-eyed man named Remy
and the other in the hulky guise of an athletic very blue-eyed sheriff named Thorne
as a gay man looking for his thruple, I can relate to having more than one love interest!
I LIKE THE CHOCOLATE SHOP
can't remember the name of the witch that owns it, but I love the shop's murals and furnishings as described in the book
very imaginative colorful and darling if I may
All in all I would recommend this book to anyone, even my mad old Aunt Donna
this book is for anyone whose mother ever warned them off of watching Bewitched as a child
Now so many years later I see the basic intelligence of that show and marvel at how ahead of their time they were
this book is a product of all of that whether it knows it or not
thanks for this opportunity to blather on ..
most sincerely,
David Henry

Historia
It takes a lot of effort for Jimmy Crocker to become Piccadilly Jim – nights on the town roistering, headlines in the gossip columns, a string of broken hearts and breaches of promise. Eventually he becomes rather good at it and manages to go to pieces with his eyes open. But no sooner has Jimmy cut a wild swathe through fashionable London than his terrifying Aunt Nesta decides he must mend his ways. He then falls in love with the girl he has hurt most of all, and after that things get complicated. In a dizzying plot, impersonations pile on impersonations....

Historia
A private detective who can make the guilty confess simply by smiling at them. An artist so intimidated by his morally impeccable cat that he feels compelled to wear formal attire at dinner. A devotee of Proust whose life is turned upside down when he inadvertently subscribes to a correspondence course on "How to Acquire Complete Self-Confidence and an Iron Will." These are just a few of the many members of the eccentric Mulliner clan whose lives and exploits are laid before the regulars of the "Angler's Rest" by that doyen of raconteurs, Mr. Mulliner, in a series of tall stories where lunacy and comic exuberance reign supreme.

4/30/21
this is another phenomenal book expertly crafted by PG Wodehouse and
voiced by the divinely gifted Jonathan Cecil
one of my all-time favorite narrators.
he, Jane Entwhistle and
Hugh Fraser
-those 3 are tied equally for spellbinding and sorcery
as far as I'm concerned
anyway the story is hilarious Aunt Dahlia is priceless and in rare equine
mixed with
basset hound form
at all times
the dialogue is so smart
I've copied things he's written and Incorporated them into daily life now
phrases like
'you interest me strangely'
now interest me strangely!
they just roll off my tongue now
-in fact I just can't wait for opportunities to use PG's words
the book is timeless
and time spent listening to it
is time well spent
it's well worth your time and money
as all his writings are
thanks Mr Wodehouse
for inventing a name like
Stilton Cheesewright!
I am beholden to and appreciative of

My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

Uncle Fred, or to give him his full title of Frederick Altamont Cornwallis Twistleton, fifth Earl of Ickenham, is considered by some as a splendid gentleman - a sportsman to his fingertips. Mr. Twistleton, nephew to the Earl, and otherwise known as Pongo to his friends, has a differing view. He simply describes his uncle as being loopy to the tonsils. But when the eccentric and well-loved Uncle Fred plays Cupid to Lord Emsworth, his old friend at Blandings Castle, little did he know that he would be known as Impostor A and the Lord’s beloved pig, the Empress, as Impostor B....

Historia
Suspenseful, comic, and profoundly moving, the latest novel in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series follows one of literature's most beloved and indelible characters as she embarks on a road trip that will take her deep into her complicated past. Now 92, and committed to the notion of "leaving like a lady", Mrs. Madrigal has seemingly found peace with her "logical family" in San Francisco: her devoted caretaker, Jake Greenleaf; her former tenant Brian Hawkins and his daughter, Shawna; and Michael Tolliver and Mary Ann Singleton, who have known Anna for nearly four decades.

5 🌟 ANNA!
Revisado: 11-09-20
I read these books back in the '70s when they were new, fresh & exciting.
Funny thing is, they still are. And this book in particular glows with a rosey, loving light.
Having Kate Mulgrew,
-best narrator since
Jane Entwhistle,
voice Anna Madrigal
was a brilliant decision and a spiritual experience.
Especially in the end when Anna bestows her blessings on
Brian Hawkins and also when she's describing the monarch butterfly.
I cried so hard during this book,
but it was always
Tears mixed with Joy.
Like Dolly Parton said in
Steel Magnolias,
the best emotion.
It reminded me so much of my youth.
I'm so happy Armistead wrote this book and I fervently desire that there are more books to come.
Not just because
Armistead Maupin is one of the best writers ever,
but because I really want to know what happens to
Shawna's baby and Shawna
and I want to know what happens to
Brian and Wren
and I want to know what happens to
Michael and Ben,
and
Jake and Amos.
And Mary Anne...
Friends old and new.
But most
especially Michael Mouse,
as he holds a special, tender place in my heart.
When Armistead had
Michael have a seizure in the book,
I was sure he was going to be leaving us,
I was so relieved and so twistedly, hilariously amused, when
Mary Ann Singleton
was the first face he sees as he comes out of his death tremors.
In fucking Burning Man, of all settings.
Probably the Least likely
place you'd expect to see
our sweet naive Cleveland expat Mary Ann Singleton.
Only Armistead would have put Mary Ann in a dusty
pink & white candy stripers uniform and have her be there,
the first thing Michael Mouse sees when he wakes up.
Sheer Brilliance
Sheer Inspiration
Sheer Armistead
A gorgeous
warm, cozy fire blending
of the
present with the past.
All of them have become family to me.
One of the definitions of
bless
is to endow someone with a particular cherished thing
or attribute.
In this case,
bless you Armistead
for realizing and cultivating
and developing your unique gift.
Your particularly cherished gift
is your ability to put
pen to paper
and
bring emotions to life.
Bless you Armistead,
in the most faithful sense of the word,
for bringing these people into our hearts and minds and consciousness.
The world is an
infinitly better place
with you
and
your words
and
your imagination
in it.
