Historia
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

absolute masterpiece
Revisado: 11-04-24
Sci-fi audiobooks don't get any better than this. RC Bray's narration makes this already 10/10 book into something unforgettable. I've read Starship troopers dozens of times but his narration made me feel like I did while reading it for the first time.

Historia
By the blessing of the Omnissiah was the Mars Triumphant born – from the forges of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the mighty Baneblade super-heavy battle tank comes to bring death and destruction to the foes of the Imperium. As part of the Paragonian 7th Company, Honoured Lieutenant Marken Cortein Lo Bannick commands the venerable war machine in a bitter war against the orks in the Kalidar system. As the campaign grinds on it begins to take its toll upon his crew, and old clan prejudices from the regiment's home world arise once more. In a war which cannot be won by force of arms alone.

Expected more Baneblade
Revisado: 10-30-24
For a book named for the tank, I expected a lot more Baneblade than the nook actually gave me. there are only a few parts in the book containing action from inside the tank. Most of what the protagonist does and sees during the book is outside his tank. The culmination of the protagonists backstory was underwhelming and makes you wonder if there was any even fault in his "dishonor" at all. Longworth is impressive as always, no issues with narration.

Historia
On the prison world of Zartak, darkness has fallen on arbitrators and inmates alike. The Night Lords have come, bringing with them the shadow of fear and pain. But these monsters are not the only ones with an interest in Zartak. From the void, running on silent, another fleet emerges. These Space Marine warriors are grey-clad and white-faced, and their eyes are as black as the Outer Dark – the savage Carcharodon Astra.

Decent
Revisado: 10-26-24
I have issues with the narration, Shogo has a great voice but his pauses in between dialog lines is longer than normal conversation. I listened at 1.2 which I don't normally do for books like this. Shogo can be a great BL narrator but he needs to work on it.
the author shifted viewpoints very quickly and it turned out to be har to follow in parts

Historia
The year is 2033. The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct and the half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind, but the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on Earth....

Cadia licks its wounds in the wake of the Thirteenth Black Crusade. The heretic forces retreat on all fronts. The day is won. But Lord Castellan Creed cannot rest easy. Something tells him the assault was a mere prelude to something greater, something more final. He is right. Out of the Eye of Terror comes Abaddon the Despoiler, at the head of a warhost unmatched in scale since the dread days of the Horus Heresy.

the book was great, the narration not so much. a female co-narrator would have helped. many voices sounded the same, others sounded just goofy.

I'm glad Serkis didn't emulate voices from the film production he worked on, he told the story his own way and his singing wasn't bad either

masterwork
Revisado: 01-30-24
I finished the audio book yesterday and I'm still numb trying to process the story. I have been a fan of 40k all my life and to finally get a narrative of the penultimate moment of the series is simply amazing. Abnett went above and beyond for the HH series and the final books especially. Keeble is the best narrator on Audible and anything he reads turns to gold. It has been an amazing series and I'm overwhelmed putting it to words.

Narration Lacking
Revisado: 12-26-23
The narration wasn't terrible. It's even passable, but as one of the final books in the series I would say it desperately needs a remaster by Longworth. some character voices are really bad but the work isn't completely irredeemable.

overall underwhelming
Revisado: 04-08-22
It tells a story that that anyone with basic knowledge of the Death Korps already know. Colonel Jurgen destroys his planet rather than lose it in a civil war. I dont think anyone needed to hear the gritty details for half of a book. the other plot lines that are set in the "present" timeline don't advance the lore or answer any questions about the DKOK the fluff already didn't provide. Narration was fine

My Favorite Fantasy Series Yet
Revisado: 04-11-21
This series is an absolute 10/10. It's a perfect blend of pulp fantasy action that doesn't take itself seriously, but heavy on character development and fantastic action sequences. Keeble is the best narrator for Black Library and he brings every character to life with perfect voiced.
