Not a Favorite
Revisado: 11-23-24
This story seemed drawn out. To make matters worse, the 30-something character' voices sounded more like 45-something. It was hard to imagine the characters as young, spry, highly sexual women when their voices sounded more like they belonged in the swing on the front porch. Add Calvin high-school sounding voice to the production and you have a total Audible disaster.

Not My Favorite
Revisado: 08-01-22
Disclaimer- I'm a huge Mary Monroe fan and usually become so engrossed in her stories that Saturdays come and go without notice. Unfortunately, this novel was lacking and lost its steam midway. Uncharacteristically Monroe, the characters never gained any depth or grew. Sarah was as simple at 26 as she was at 15. Midway, even the author seemed bored with her simple-minded, one dimensional characters. The end was farfetched and idiotic. I guess that was the pitiful attempt to inject some life into this dull piece of work. Sorry, Ms. Monroe. You are truly one of the best writers of black Amercan fiction.

This one chose me.
Revisado: 07-20-22
Tre to form Danielle Steel masterpiece. How does she write hit after hit? I found hope. This book reminded me that I may not know my mother as well as I think I do. I should remember that she is a woman first and handle her more gently with consideration. And of course, being 50+ plus, I could appreciate Maddie's misgivings about love and relationship. I listened and learned with this one.

I Talked Back
Revisado: 06-04-21
Not what I expected at all. Wonderfully and beautifully written. Great performance by both narrators. Characters and situations so real I caught myself talking back to the characters like my Mamo used to do when she watched soap operas. Too, I really appreciated the strong family dynamics of all characters. Each life was woven delicately into those of the main characters. Fantastic job, Ms. Jones!

Historia
Simon Basset, the irresistible Duke of Hastings, has hatched a plan to keep himself free from the town's marriage-minded society mothers. He pretends to be engaged to the lovely Daphne Bridgerton. After all, it isn't as if the brooding rogue has any real plans to marry - though there is something about the alluring Miss Bridgerton that sets Simon's heart beating a bit faster. And as for Daphne, surely the clever debutante will attract some very worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable.

Beautiful Love Story
Revisado: 04-02-21
This book was amazing. Unfortunately, I saw the TV series before listening and that distracted from the book. I was amazed at how the TV series took each character and gave them stories of their own. Of course, the original book did not disappoint. It was as full of love an intrigue and was a good listen. The narrator's performance was superb. Her voice was engaging and appropriate for the characters. The story was very well written and organized. I totally enjoyed and can easily understand why it was made into a TV series.

Historia
Their Eyes Were Watching God, an American classic, is the luminous and haunting novel about Janie Crawford, a Southern Black woman in the 1930s, whose journey from a free-spirited girl to a woman of independence and substance has inspired writers and readers for close to 70 years.

A Work of Art
Revisado: 02-25-21
Ms. Hurston paints a word picture like none other. I love Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Nikki Giovanni. They are great writers. Zora Neal Hurston is the mother of great writers. Her word usage and imagery are packed with all the emotions one experiences when waiting for love. The easy slide from an advanced vocabulary to slang was a literal treat and tease. Ruby Dee's narration was masterful. Her voice drew me into the mind, soul, heart, body, and world of Janie. She knew when to increase the cadence and when to slow it down. I was Janie with each word that slipped through Ruby Dee's lips. Oprah Winfrey's movie version of this book is pretty good (and one of my top 5) but pales in comparison to the book itself. I guess there is no way to reproduce the artistry of words through film. Zora Neal Hurston was a literary genius and this book is one of her most eloquent works of art.

Historia
Motherhood isn’t easy, especially when you’re a mother of a Black son. Ten years ago, Cheryl jumped at the chance to send her son, Javonte, to an exclusive boarding school in New England - far away from Atlanta and the violence of the city streets. It was the American dream, or was it? Now settled in Vermont, Javonte is married and well-employed, but Cheryl hardly ever sees him, and when she does, her own son seems like someone she only used to know.

Emotional Rollercoaster
Revisado: 10-10-20
Slow beginning but picks up after a couple of chapters. This book is so rich. Every emotion is tested. You cry. You cheer. You fret. You get angry. You even love when she loves. The end is the end but it didn't prevent me from wanting more. Very well written and superbly narrated.
