Acerca de esta escucha

From Tayari Jones, author of the New York Times best seller and Oprah’s Book Club pick An American Marriage, comes an intimate, powerful story of two sisters.

Identical twins Amelia and Camelia Hall were born with the same face, and that’s about it: By the time the girls were through school, the matching set of names could no longer contain them. Now there’s Cam, whose contrarian streak led her to a career in law, and Lia, who followed more closely in her parents’ footsteps with her dermatology practice and married-with-children lifestyle in Atlanta’s Glenwood Park.

But the bond between the sisters is deep and unshakable - Cam serves as the maid of honor on Lia’s wedding day and as her attorney 15 years later, when Lia’s life and the lives of her two teenage daughters are rocked by divorce. And two years after her separation, the dust is finally starting to settle. But in the hazy glow of their first years of marriage, Lia gifted her then-husband a precious, irreplaceable family heirloom, and she decides that now, she must do whatever she can to get it back, starting with breaking and entering.

In Half Light, Jones explores the complex, profound bond of family, both the family we’re born with and the family we choose, against the vibrant backdrop of present-day Atlanta.

Featured Article: Must-Hear Contemporary Black Women Authors

It’s a fact that a high percentage of the best books that have come out in this century have been written by Black women authors. (Truth be told, there are so many excellent works that this list could simply centered on the best contemporary authors and still be accurate.) Nevertheless, Black women’s stories deserve to be heard, and when the stories are this compelling, this engaging, and this beautifully written, they’re impossible to ignore.

I just don’t get all the great reviews on this book. I just could t get into it. I fell asleep toward the end. Too much hype not enough storyline for me. Just a lot of endless uninteresting self talk. Sorry.

It starts off a little underwhelming, but by the time I got to the end, I was so happy I’d heard it. I had happy tears welling up in me.

Unexpectedly Good

Another one for audiobook fans - Tayari Jones’ - author of wonderful novels “An American Marriage” and “Silver Sparrow” short story: “Half Light”. The story, narrated by the great narrator Bahni Turpin, is about adult identical twins who embark on a caper of deep personal significance, which takes a fun and interesting turn. A great story about sisterhood in the nuclear sense and then as they encounter another younger woman and contemplate their mother’s life sisterhood among women in the more general sense. Fantastic !

I'm not sure why it took me a few tries to get into this book. I restarted it three times. I enjoyed this short book. I couldn't help but to imagine the possibilities and twists that could've occured if this was a complete novel. The ending didn't seem complete, perhaps it's my reader imagination.

Short, but sweet work by Tayari Jones

A wonderful story about a sisterly bond that lasts a lifetime; the love of a wife that endures neglect but loves anyway.

Great short

A quick listen with a central, moralistic lesson. Jones and Turpin write well together. Their writing style allows the reader to connect with each character- leaving the reader enveloped in the "what will happen next" internal dialogue.

Writing that transcends you into the storyline

I really enjoyed An American Marriage so was happy to see a short by Tayari. It did not fail me. For the short amount of time in this book, I learned everything I needed to know for this story. I think it would be a good series actually.
The narrator’s voice grated on me a little at first, but in the end it worked for this book.

Love me some Tayari Jones
