Historia
Captain John "Black Jack" Geary's legendary exploits are known to every schoolchild. Revered for his heroic "last stand" in the early days of the war, he was presumed dead. But a century later, Geary miraculously returns from survival hibernation and reluctantly takes command of the Alliance fleet as it faces annihilation by the Syndics.
Appalled by the hero-worship around him, Geary is nevertheless a man who will do his duty. And he knows that bringing the stolen Syndic hypernet key safely home is the Alliance's one chance to win the war. But to do that, Geary will have to live up to the impossibly heroic "Black Jack" legend.

This series is amazing!
Revisado: 07-30-18
One of the few series that I cannot put down. The story is intriguing, and each book has a satisfying conclusion with enough of a cliff hanger that you just can't stop at one book. I like how he has a take on the consequences of such a long war on how everyone fights, and trying to balance the fleets since of what is right with how to actually get them to survive without throwing their lives away. Great series.

Excellent story with dark content
Revisado: 04-16-18
I love the story and characters and can't wait to read the next one, but unfortunately there was a lot of content (language and sexual things) that made it difficult to get through. That's the only reason this is 4 stars instead of five. I live the characters and their decisions definitely had an emotional impact and the whole story was awesome!

Historia
What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters? In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

A fun fantasy adventure
Revisado: 08-31-17
I wasn't sure what to think of this book after reading some of the reviews, but the entire journey was a lot of fun. I'm familiar with pen and paper RPGs but don't have much experience with them and still was able to enjoy the story a lot. Those elements definitely add a uniqueness to this story but this book is not written in a way that only those with RPG experience will relate to, like some of the reviews have suggested.
If you want a fun fantasy book, definitely give NPCs a try. Also the narrator does a superb job bringing these characters to life.

I didn't think I would like the book as much as I did. Amazing story, great character. I really like how the characters choices make sense to her and you can see and understand why she is making the choices she does even while you're crying out for her to make the right choice.

Historia
From Dan Wells, author of the New York Times best-selling Partials Sequence, comes the first book in a new sci-fi-noir series. Los Angeles in 2050 is a city of open doors, as long as you have the right connections. That connection is a djinni - a smart device implanted right in a person's head. In a world where virtually everyone is online 24 hours a day, this connection is like oxygen - and a world like that presents plenty of opportunities for someone who knows how to manipulate it.

Historia
This, the first in the splendid series of Jack Aubrey novels, establishes the friendship between Captain Aubrey, Royal Navy, and Stephen Maturin, ship's surgeon and intelligence agent, against the thrilling backdrop of the Napoleonic wars. Details of life aboard a man-of-war in Nelson's navy are faultlessly rendered: the conversational idiom of the officers in the ward room and the men on the lower deck, the food, the floggings, the mysteries of the wind and the rigging, and the road of broadsides as the great ships close in battle.

Interesting story, hard to follow
Revisado: 02-16-17
I don't know why but I had a really hard time following what was going on in this story. It kept jumping to a future moment and then doing a flashback to what happened just before, and maybe it had something to do with the over abundance of nautical terms. Even knowing what some of those terms meant I was still lost as to exactly what happened sometimes.
Despite the above complaint, the story, or at least the parts I followed and understood, was still interesting. Also it's neat to get a glimpse of what Naval life was like back then.

Intriguing exploration of life
Revisado: 10-15-16
What I enjoyed most about this book was trying to see through an alien creatures body from a human perspective. It's definitely unique and thought provoking. An interesting read to make your wonder what might be out there and how might they perceive the world around them.

Awesome story!
Revisado: 08-05-15
The audio book sounds like it skips a few parts, mostly just sentences that get cut off in the later chapters, but beyond that this story was fascinating to listen to. One of the most epic fantasy battles I have read. Now on to book 6! The hooks at the end really make me want to keep on reading.

Historia
The colony world Adirondack and Silvern fell to the Troft forces almost without a struggle. Outnumbered and on the defensive, Earth made a desperate decision. It would attack the aliens not from space, but on the ground - with forces the Trofts did not even suspect. Thus were created the cobras, a guerrilla force whose weapons were surgically implanted, invisible to the unsuspecting eye, yet undeniably deadly.

The life of a cobra
Revisado: 06-17-15
It is interesting how this story isn't just focused on a single major event, like a war, but instead follows over character through about 30 years of life, including war, family life, exploration. It is well told and kept me interested the whole time.
