Historia
The name Captain James Cook is one of the most recognisable in Australian history - an almost mythic figure who is often discussed, celebrated, reviled and debated. But who was the real James Cook? This Yorkshire farm boy would go on to become the foremost mariner, scientist, navigator and cartographer of his era, and to personally map a third of the globe. His great voyages of discovery were incredible feats of seamanship and navigation.

The authenticity, detail without becoming boring, the personal stories and conflicts among Cook and his fellow crew members. A excellent insider review of Captain Cook's second voyage.

Germany is one of the richest and most influential countries in the world, which is amazing when you consider that the nation is only about the size of the US states of Oregon and Washington combined. It’s even more astounding when you consider that at the end of World War II, every major German city (and many minor ones) had been flattened by the Allied bombing campaign. Still more amazing is that the country has gone from international pariah and home of the Holocaust to one of the most well-regarded and humanitarian nations on Earth.

Historia
With The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors and Ship of Ghosts, James D. Hornfischer created essential and enduring narratives about America’s World War II Navy, works of unique immediacy distinguished by rich portraits of ordinary men in extremis and exclusive new information. Now he does the same for the deadliest, most pivotal naval campaign of the Pacific war: Guadalcanal. Neptune’s Inferno is at once the most epic and the most intimate account ever written of the contest for control of the seaways of the Solomon Islands.

accuracy and detsil
Revisado: 01-01-25
I appreciated the detailed research. Sometimes the writing was a bit too "flowerly" but then that's the author's prerogative. The background and follow-up information was interesting and helpful. I read this as an audio book. A link to some simple maps would have been extraordinarily helpful.

November 22nd, 2013 marks the 50th Anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy... and at last we have the unbiased facts, concisely-presented by a skilled, acclaimed author who is also a credible voice: an ordained Methodist minister. “Finally, a well-written, witty, and factual overview of the case that examines both the big picture and all the important details in the mosaic—without getting lost in a morass of tangential information. This is an important book that clearly demonstrates why the JFK assassination case is still relevant, unsolved, and intriguing. Whether an expert...

The detailed references and the excellent review of a complex, controversial subject.
Revisado: 04-20-24
Duplicity of closely related topics is somewhat aggravating but perhaps necessary in order to fully understand the complexity of obscure but important elements of his arguments.

REVEALING, TROUBLING AND WELL DONE
Revisado: 10-15-23
This book maybe should have been called, Hunting the Killers, since it appears that many get away with their deplorable deeds. Perhaps that's just the nature of these crimes. Well done, right level.of detail, and recommended for mature readers.
