Historia
When her family relocated to rural China in 2003, Kay Bratt was thrust into a new world, one where boys were considered more valuable than girls and poverty and the one-child policy had created an epidemic of abandoned infants. As a volunteer at a local orphanage, Bratt witnessed conditions that were unfathomable to a middle-class mother of two from South Carolina. Based on Bratt’s diary of her four years at the orphanage, Silent Tears offers a searing account of young lives rendered disposable.

The author has given us the truth behind the facade portrayed of the orphanages in China.
Revisado: 04-20-25
It’s a heartbreaking first hand account of abandoned children living in an orphanage in China. I was so sad knowing so many children and babies have been subjected to harsh and cruel treatment by many people working in the orphanage. To be born with a defect or born a girl oftentimes means cruel life of suffering.

The distraction of the narrator’s performance.
Revisado: 03-11-25
It’s difficult listening to the incongruent narration. I gave up early on because of it. Because I thought the book would be a good one, I tried listening to it again. I’m glad I persisted. The point @ which 2 seemingly unrelated stories come together, I became more interested. I was able to just focus on the story in spite of the annoying narrator’s performance. I did take several breaks before continuing.

Listening to lengthy case regressions was tedious. I am impressed by the author’s skill with the regressions and how it benefits his clients in real time.

Narration is excellent!
Revisado: 02-26-25
I enjoyed the way the past relates to the present and all of the history in between. I liked knowing the history of the lost friends book. I also liked the reading of the ads done between the very courageous journey of the past and the present challenges a century later. The writing style was seamless in keeping the reader engaged. It’s a very well done story.

Difficult to imagine that the story is based on true lives of African aristocracy in England during that period of history.
Revisado: 02-18-25
I kept feeling like the story wasn’t real. The whole manner of speech and conversations were interesting. It was the same sense I had when watching the Netflix Bridgerton series.
It felt like I was listening to a fantasy especially if you’re of African American descent. Rampant horrific racism and violence is continuing in America. When during the reconstruction period in America, African American people were able to prosper. Because of the hatred and jealousy that was not allowed to continue. It was replaced with Jim Crow. (Laws as horrific as continuing slavery). An African Princess who became the ward or god daughter of the Queen of England was an interesting story.

An excellent student from a poor, traditional family in Seoul, the narrator has absorbed the same message her whole life: Only a boy can provide the family with dignity and wealth. Not her. Not her three sisters. Receiving approval only for uncomplaining sacrifice, she has resolved to take on her family’s troubles. She is a good girl. And she knows what good girls must do.

There are some interesting stories about actual people. The narration was spoken as if she telling secrets. There was too much about the author and not enough cases illustrating evidence that Death is not Goodbye.

Historia
As a traditional psychotherapist, Dr. Brian Weiss was astonished and skeptical when one of his patients began recalling past-life traumas that seemed to hold the key to her recurring nightmares and anxiety attacks. His skepticism was eroded, however, when she began to channel messages from the "space between lives", which contained remarkable revelations about Dr. Weiss' family and his dead son. Using past-life therapy, he was able to cure the patient and embark on a new, more meaningful phase of his own career.
