Problems with Continuity
Revisado: 05-08-24
When we last heard from the group in Sugar Creek Julia and Grady were expecting and both were concerned because they wanted to wait a few years. Now Clara is not yet 1 year and they are all a flutter because Julia can't get pregnant.
I also have to quibble with how she loosely threw around the job title of meteorologist. That is a specific area of study. If the person doesn't have the degree then they are the local weatherman.
The story was good, it has become somewhat formulaic I started skipping over sections. Was she walking with the mail, riding a bike, or driving? Who knows.
As always the narration, except for little Clara, was excellent. Clara sounded too much like Chuckie from the horror film.

Historia
The one rule bookshop owner and widow Penelope Thornton-McClure has given ghostly, hard-boiled PI Jack Shepard is to not haunt the customers. But when the hot, young author Angel Stark arrives at the store to promote her latest true-crime novel, Jack can hardly contain himself. Angel's book is an unsolved mystery about a debutante found strangled to death, and it's filled with juicy details that point a finger at a number of people in the deb's high-society circle. But when the author winds up dead, too - in precisely the same way - Pen is fast on the case...which means Jack is, too.

Jack is as Dumb as Penelope
Revisado: 03-18-24
Jack has been haunting the bookstore since 1949 and has learned nothing about changes over the decades.
It is annoying how bullied the shop owners are by one member of the town council, most of that scenario is over the top ridiculous. The so called heroine who bragged about her toughness in the first volume folds like a wet tissue whenever she is faced with any obstacle.
The narration is good, the dialogue atrocious.

Not the Brightest Candle
Revisado: 03-10-24
Like other reviewers have mentioned, a lot going on between book one and book 3. It would have been better to have more than a few weeks between books. Perhaps Cari would grow up a little, for someone already near 30.
I do appreciate Cari has an adult relationship with Dylan, not a 30 y/o virgin, and sometimes uses a salty word. Nothing profane or frequent, but it is not kindergarten.
I was going along, ignoring how many hours her days are, to accomplish everything she lists it much be more than 24.
The final straw and death knell for the series for me was her visit to the real estate records office. Absurd! I think the author would have been better served to search for records before she wrote the book.
As is typical for the genre, every male in her orbit spends most of the book telling her what to do or not do. But like most protagonists in the genre, she has has the impulses of a teenager.

AI version unlistenable. Can't say much about the story because there is no difference in voices between the characters making it impossible to follow. This was a free audio book through my Audibke membership.

Historia
Bedtime Stories For Grownups is a series of whimsical scenes from the stuff of dreams that is intended to be a portal into dreamland. There is no plot to follow and no sense to make of anything - simply descriptions of dreamscapes to help you find your way there. Please note that some listeners may find some of the content quite dark and unsettling - more nightmare than dream. These tales are told with humility - and with respect. Any descriptive similarity to actual persons or events is unintentional and entirely coincidental. Soundscape by Alpha Jetplane Music.

Perfect to lull you to sleep
Revisado: 04-01-23
Her calm soothing voice with the extended gaps in the story sends me off to sleep in a few minutes.
The voice and music are very well suited and has enough clarity I can turn the volume very low.

Not the brightest candle in the box
Revisado: 07-14-21
Addie is an idiot, and she is the smart one in this new seriess.
The descriptions of the characters puffing, slapping, and acting juvenile was bad enough. The main character had no ability to run a business or express herself.
Just awful, I'm glad it was free.
The narrator is good, sorry she had such bad material to work with.

Historia
Visiting her family's South Carolina estate, socialite Gray Godfrey wakes from a night out to an empty bed. Her husband, Paul, is gone, and a thrashing hangover has wiped her memory clean. At first, she's relieved for the break from her tumultuous marriage; perhaps Paul just needed some space. But when his car is found abandoned on the highway, Gray must face the truth: Paul is gone. And Gray may not want him found. Her life is unraveling. When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help.

Still plodding through it
Revisado: 09-29-20
I'm not sure I'm going to finish this. The best thing I can say I didn't use any points to purchase it.
The narration was pretty good. The accents didn't bother me as much as it did other listeners, I'm used to fake southern accents. I had no trouble differentiating between the two narrators, I'm surprised listeners had a problem telling them apart. .What bothered me were, the stupid mistakes. The most glaring so far - Paul Revere Highway? In South Carolina? The other was a basement in a house built near a marsh. We don't have basements in the eastern part of South Carolina. You would have to have a sump pump going 24/7 and it will still be wet. Perhaps that is why Grey and Nina mention the dampness of the house. Same goes for a furnace. Older homes would have had electric baseboard heat unless they were updated with a HVAC system.
I'm uncomfortable with Grey's alcoholism and no one doing anything to help her.
For now it is dragging, I feel like I've been listening to it forever and I'm only halfway through. I'm not really sure I care about what happened to Paul.

Revisado: 06-20-19
I listened to this right after it was published. Like many I was interested for the inside story on the Trump White House. It was pretty much, nothing new. No surprises, No revelations. He has become something of an irrelevant hack.
From the tone of his more recent books, I would say he needs his old partner Carl Bernstein to help balance his views.

Let's have a little history with the sex story
Revisado: 06-20-19
Great idea, I know it has dedicated followers and people love the television series, but how much sex can you cram into a novel? I am not that prudish, but the sex scenes got old, oh boy a kitchen table, let's do it. The fire is burning, let's do it, the British are coming let's do it.
Poor Jamie, in real life he would be dead from all of his battle wounds. You can only do so much with herbs and whisky. I also was bothered by her acceptance of beatings because according to Jamie, that is what he needed so, he should also beat his wife.
The most unforgivable sin in the book is turning her back on her first husband. I've not read the follow up books so I don't know if his ancestor was killed,
I plowed through and listened to the whole thing. Not sure if I want to hear the next installment.
