Historia
When the Colonial Marines set out after their deadliest prey, the Xenomorphs, it's what Corporal Hicks calls a bug hunt - kill or be killed. Here are fifteen all-new stories of such "close encounters", written by many of today's most extraordinary authors. Set during the events of all four Alien films, sending the Marines to alien worlds, to derelict space settlements, and into the nests of the universe's most dangerous monsters, these adventures are guaranteed to send the blood racing - one way or another.

Truly a mixed bag
Revisado: 12-02-24
Some of these stories are really great, true gems, some of these stories are so bad that you continue to think about how bad they were weeks after hearing them because it was such an infuriating waste of time. I really don't know how some of these could have been allowed to be in this collection but the ones that are good and the ones that are great take up the slack, I would like to tell you which ones to avoid but these things come down to personal preference and instead I'll just tell you that if it seems like it's going nowhere after the first 10 to 15 minutes you should probably just move on.

Terminator 1+: The Future Is Not Set, bridges the timespan between Terminator and Terminator 2: The Rise of the Machines. It answers the questions left hanging and introduces us to characters that ultimately populate the Terminator Universe.

Most appropriate A.I. narration

I was excited about this one so I got to it on launch day and was, at first, disappointed that it was an AI reading. I still gave it a shot though and actually wasn't disappointed, though there are some hiccups here and there. It helps that the voice sounds like Sarah Connor and the story itself really is well done and fills in the gap between films 1 & 2 rather perfectly imo; the interludes were also fascinating and the time jumps in the story really worked well but you do have to be paying attention so as to not get lost.
Overall I definitely recommend it to any fan wanting more, the future parts were especially satisfying.

Almost an Aliens chick-flick
Revisado: 07-23-24
I like this book, it's held in high regard in the Aliens community and I see why, captures a lot of what made the first and second films so good, definitely tugs on the heart strings early on with lots of dread and horror then relatively smoothly transitions into more action horror for the last half. It's written by a female with a female main character and has an underlying romance to it and while that's not a bad thing it is noticeable as a male reader that this is sort of a female fantasy novel and with that being the case, I highly recommend this to any female readers out there as I think you'll be able to more thoroughly enjoy it in a way that I could not.
While this book IS great, I'm currently on Aliens Bishop and I actually like it more than this one and if you really loved the films you'll appreciate this direct sequel that encapsulates the second and third films almost perfectly; conveniently for this review, the lead for the Marine story in that book is also female, she's an Aussie, and she's great. Check it out.

The second original novel in an Alien vs Predator: Rage War series, continuing from Predator: Incursion as Colonial Marines units are being wiped out—and not by the Predators. This is an attack by organized armies of Aliens.

The use of synthetics is dope.. but that's it.
Revisado: 07-23-24
I really didn't care for this trilogy, I liked the first book, but the story started the trail off with this one and then fell flat with the third for me.
There are blatant references and homages to the films that seem somehow tasteless, I don't know how you do that, but it is what it is. One thing I did love was the use of synthetics, there's a lot of potential there and the way they were intertwined with the xenomorphs in this story was really cool to me, but that's about the peak of how clever these novels get. I'd skip these to be totally honest, certainly wish I had.

Historia
Predator ships stream into human space in unprecedented numbers. The Colonial Marines, controlled by Weyland-Yutani, respond to the incursion, thus entering the Rage War. This terrifying assault by the Yautja cannot go unchallenged, yet the cost of combat is high. Predators are master combatants, and each encounter yields a high body count. Then, when Lt. Johnny Mains and his marines - the VoidLarks - enter the fray, they discover an enemy deadlier than any could imagine.

Best of a not gr8 trilogy
Revisado: 07-23-24
Unfortunately this is the only book I enjoyed of the trilogy, the second one has its highlights, but the third one was just a huge letdown and the ending was abrupt and flat in my opinion.
I really liked the hostile interactions the Marines have with the "Yahoocha" (I think it's funny how much emphasis they put on pronouncing this name) and the reverence the Marines have for combat with these extraterrestrials is pretty great, but there's only bits and pieces of that here and there and the Marines don't really shine the way they do in other media, if you want proper Marines you should read Enemy of my Enemy or Aliens Bishop which I would say is the best Aliens novel so far.

It’s 1984, and life has changed beyond recognition. Airstrip One, formerly known as Great Britain, is a place where Big Brother is always watching, and nobody can hide. Except, perhaps, for Winston Smith. Whilst working at the Ministry of Truth, rewriting history, he secretly dreams of freedom. And in a world where love and sex are forbidden, where it’s hard to distinguish between friend and foe, he meets Julia and O’Brien and vows to rebel.

amazing performances, timeless story
Revisado: 04-29-24
Obviously it's becoming harder to distinguish reality from the classic novel giving it a spectacular relevancey but perhaps not as spectacular as the performances and dramatization, everyone did amazing. Well done.

Waste of time
Revisado: 02-27-24
The first book started off pretty strong but halfway through the second book I started to worry and then by the end of the 3rd, my fears had been realized. The writer unfortunately was just trying to do too much, it was just too big with too many characters and the most interesting ones unceremoniously die off early on then after some more bland padding out the story just kind of abruptly curtain calls and that's it. Felt like the writer was tired of writing this trilogy and just wanted to wrap it up. It's also set so far in the future that it's hard to relate it to existing Aliens media. The settings are jarring with vivid descriptions randomly ebbing and flowing, you get seemingly several pages describing an office then little to nothing for a cityscape or planetside.
Overall, it seemed like it was going to be interesting but fell flat and I wish I had just skipped this one. I'm on Aliens Bishop right now and it's amazing, go give that one a shot if you loved the films and want more Marines and some satisfying closure.
