John Grisham returns to Ford County, Mississippi, the setting of his immensely popular first novel, A Time to Kill. This wholly surprising collection of stories reminds us once again why Grisham is America's favorite storyteller.

Mark Twain revisited.
Revisado: 12-24-23
I interrupted a reread of Mark Twain’s autobiography, listening to a few Grisham books. Somewhere among the tales of “Ford County” i sensed Twain’s ghost wafting from the stories.

Honestly, I thought this book was sorta sweet… then it really got started. There is great evil and great good here. It’s a little bit of everything you want in a Koontz story… plus some.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

A delicious Christmas murder!
Revisado: 12-23-22
If you like a little murder, with a little romance, a little intrigue and lot of hot chocolate and snickerdoodles…. This is your book!
I listened to Slays during the December storm of 22….while healing from covid, surfing all the bad news and political hullabaloo so….What a relief, to find a book so charming and well read that the sound of the freezing roaring wind was upstaged by family and food, fun and Christmas. This world needs a big dose of this kinder gentler writing. We have gotten away from life’s simple pleasures, cupcakes and friends.
So, if you want a…Calgon take me away moment, have a listen.

Never believe that life in a tiny Spanish mountain village is predictable. Vicky and Joe have finished fixing up their house and look forward to peaceful days enjoying their retirement. Then the fish van arrives and, instead of delivering fresh fish, disgorges the Ufarte family. The peace of El Hoyo is shattered. Packed with badly behaved humans and animals, irreverent humour and sunshine, this audiobook will make you laugh out loud.

What lovely books this and the previous one! These days , which seem filled with troubles, necessitate a bit of simple , charming peacefulness. I believe you too shall find Mrs. Tweads books to have just that gift to offer. Jilly Bond is totally the cream cheese icing on the cake. Her reading of Pilcher works were magical. Same here. Take a trip with this book…

Historia
A Place Like Home is a collection of Rosamunde Pilcher’s most enduring short stories, never before published in audiobook form. The collection contains 15 stories, which range from "The Holiday", in which a wife surprises her husband of 25 years with a holiday full of Mediterranean sunshine, red rocks, and blue seas in an effort to rekindle the romance they had before children; "The Eye of Love", which takes the listener to the bright spring sunshine and sparkling waves of a Northumbrian village where old flames meet again; and more.

I love All of Pilcher’s books…except this one.
Revisado: 05-24-22
I read Flowers in the rain when I was 35, (I’m 58 now), and fell in love. Since that wonderful introduction , I have considered Rosamund Pilcher’s books some of my absolute favorites, over the years. I have them all….
So, when my husband pointed out that Audible had another Pilcher’s book, in their lineup, I was pretty amazed, seeing that she had passed away. But, obviously, some authors works are presented posthumously.
I have now listened to each of these short stories. They simply aren’t as good as Pilcher’s other books. It’s like they are outlines with good ideas, but there is little character development, frequent unexplained changes in course, and the endings are often abrupt.
Maybe it’s just me. It’s like these stories weren’t completed enough prior to the authors death, but afterwards they were put out there. I will never think Rosamund Pilcher’s would have wanted these stories publish. She was an incredible author. This collection isn’t her best work.
