With unforgettable characters, a sweeping backdrop, and passionate storytelling, this is a fantasy debut to rival that of Robert Jordan. Filled with adventure and bloodshed, pageantry and piracy, mystery and menace, Assassin's Apprentice is the story of a royal house and the young man who is destined to chart its course through tempests of change.

I had to get used to the narrator and the style of writing. But the story is interesting and I it kept me interested enough to see where it led.

Historia
Mack might be, to all intents and purposes, a normal looking human, but she lives with a pack of shapeshifters in Cornwall in rural England after being dumped there by her mother when she was just a young child. She desperately wants to be accepted by her surrogate family, not least because a lot of them hate her for merely being human, but for some reason her blood just won't allow the transformation to occur.

Historia
"I believe there is another man inside every man, a stranger...." writes Wilfred Leland James in the early pages of the riveting confession that makes up "1922", the first in this pitch-black quartet of mesmerizing tales from Stephen King. For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.

Historia
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances....

Excellent
Revisado: 02-21-12
If you could sum up A Game of Thrones in three words, what would they be?
I don't think I can sum this book up in just 3 words. I love the complicated storyline, the many characters and subplots, and the lessons and trial each character goes through and how they are all interconnected. This is the first of a series, so it is a good introduction and forshadowing to what may come in subsequent books. I will say I watched the HBO series and it was excellent. I would recommend watching. Usually, I'm disappointed with the book-made-into a movie, but the beautiful scenery, the actors chosen to play the characters and the visual beautity of the clothing etc really helped bring the novel to life. They didn't leave anything out!
What about Roy Dotrice???s performance did you like?
I thought the narrator did a good job with the book.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I couldn't stop listening, but since it is about 48 hours long, it couldn't be done in one sitting. However, I carried my ipod/iphone around with me non-stop so I could listen at every opportunity. I had already watched the HBO program, so it wasn't like I didn't know what was going to happen next, but I still wanted to listen to it!

Very much enjoyed the listen!
Revisado: 02-21-12
What did you love best about Mount Dragon?
I liked the detailed storyline, the knowledge and research on the subject matter, both about gentetics, computers and surviving in the destert. Also, it sent a moral message about alterning human genes without being too preachy.
What other book might you compare Mount Dragon to and why?
I would compare it to a Michael Crichton novel.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-14-04
I have listend to this book several times (rented from the library) and liked it enough to buy it. I think the reader is humorous and the content is very good, if you listen to what he is saying. The Zen attitude for corporate culture was refreshing and helpful. I would recommend this book to anyone (working for an elephant) who wants to learn how to accept the Zen way of thinking and apply it in the business world and help yourself have a better attitude about life.

Great traditional fantasy story
Revisado: 12-14-04
I love fantasy and really enjoyed this story. I think it is a wonderful pick for young readers, althought you don't have to be young to enjoy it. I didn't like the reader's voice all that much, but got used to it after a while. All in all, very good.
