Historia
I Let You Go follows Jenna Gray as she moves to a ramshackle cottage on the remote Welsh coast, trying to escape the memory of the car accident that plays again and again in her mind and desperate to heal from the loss of her child and the rest of her painful past. At the same time, the novel tracks the pair of Bristol police investigators trying to get to the bottom of this hit-and-run.

Suspense and sympathy.
Revisado: 02-28-25
I was hesitant to hear a book with themes of abuse, and the death of a child. But Clare MacIntosh gives us mostly the police perspective at first, objective, analytical and investigative. She eases us into this world with detectives Ray and Kate (read by Steven Crossley), then introduces Jenna Gray, a sculptor so delicately read by Nicola Barber. The personal lives, the police procedural, everything is so fascinating. Then the story builds with revelations and twists and suspense, I couldn’t wait to see what happens next. The story becomes breathtaking and emotional. Very well done, and this book goes to the top of my list for this year.

Historia
When ten-year-old Ebby Freeman heard the gunshot, time stopped. And when she saw her brother, Baz, lying on the floor surrounded by the shattered pieces of a centuries-old jar, life as Ebby knew it shattered as well. The crime was never solved—and because the Freemans were one of the only Black families in a particularly well-to-do enclave of New England—the case has had an enduring, voyeuristic pull for the public. The last thing the Freemans want is another media frenzy splashing their family across the papers, but when Ebby's high profile romance falls apart, that's exactly what they get.

Meandering story
Revisado: 02-23-25
This family saga that spans generations has interesting topics and historical content, but never builds any steam. Much of it feels like a news report, and there’s lots of meaningless encounters, cultural clichés, and shallow characters to not care about. It’s not awful, but I can’t recommend.

Quite interesting character
Revisado: 02-21-25
Jack’s set of skills is very unusual and is cleverly used throughout the story. She is a sympathetic British woman who doesn’t always make the smartest choices, but she is clever when it matters. What an emotional & energetic thriller about a woman on the run, evading the police and using her building penetration skills to find her husband's murderer. This is one I couldn’t put down.

Good thriller
Revisado: 01-28-25
The main character was reminiscent of a Jack Reacher type of hero, as he uncovers clues and beats up a-holes as he helps a mother search for her missing teenage daughter. The sex and violence are disturbing, and the hero dispensing justice is cathartic. This novel isn’t as well crafted as similar books, but it’s still quite an enjoyable read/listen.

Insider story
Revisado: 12-12-23
Remarkable story, and although Hutchinson’s reading style is clearly amateur, I’m happy she told her own story, because it was real and honest. She brings us into her world to see how a hard-working intelligent woman could get swept into a sinister political world of poison for so long, and find her conscience in the nick of time.
