Historia
Life on Shelnora Island seemed to be perfect for me. A tropical paradise, great food, and beautiful women at the local sorority . . . until I crossed paths with a mysterious murder and sightings of an honest-to-God werewolf! Now I'm surrounded by three beautiful women, all drawn into the mystery, and it turns out that my new dog is a smoking hot shapeshifter. Life's gotten crazy, but maybe, if we all work together, we'll find out who the real killer is. Could it be the curmudgeonly divemaster with a grudge? The sleazy resort owner drumming up sensationalism for tourist bucks?

Its like Scooby-Doo but with a harem and explicit content
Revisado: 07-01-24
Mystery teams are nothing new. But this one is one step away from a rip off of scooby-boo (for those less than 30 years old, its a group of 4 teens (2 guys, 2 gals) and a dog (who talks) solving mysteries while driving a van) as this story is generally about 4 teens (1 guy, 3 girls) and a dog that talks telepathically to the guy only. Oh, and the dog shapeshift to a hot girl.
I swear, the layout of this story could've been pulled out from one of their episodes. The only thing that separates this from being a total carbon copy is the harem and sexual elements. The latter part also seems a bit force into the story. Another wierd part is that, the mystery had no magic or fantasy elements whatsoever, despite they have a SHAPESHIFTING DOG. If your a younger listener this might ve interesting. If your an adult from then 90's then this will get boring fast, unless your in it for the explicit content, which is a high school jocks version of how he'd do the girls. Depends on your preference.

An OK super hero story
Revisado: 06-19-24
This story hits most of the tropes of super hero stories of the current generation. Its got a but of My Hero Academia vibe (even using the term "ASPECTS" to signify powers, similar to the term "QUIRKS" from the aforementioned anime/manga) though with the added explicit contents. This also shares the tropes to most harem stories. Main characters was a nobody, then gains unique abilities then gathers a harem of women, defeats a bad guy above his league then happy ever after. Though I am NOT calling the story bad, some of the minor details of the stories were good. Some of the back stories and characters were pretty colorful and unqiue in personality. Though how he managed to charm 2 of the 3 women made little sense, they just fell i love with him at first sight to a complete stranger? Very high school jock approach.
As for the narrator, he is top class. He can do multiple voices each with a personality to match and emotions to go with story.
Overall, the story is ok. Hopefully its characters and world building will make it more interesting to read.

Historia
Chase had it all planned out. Do a little time in one of the emperor's jails, say a four-year stretch, for getting rid of some trash that no one would miss, and when he got out, the path to leadership would be wide open. Unfortunately, his bastard of a father, the same one who left his mother to die in poverty and him to run wild on the streets, took an interest. Seeing him sitting on the bench when his case went to court was a shock. But not as big a shock as being sentenced to ten years in the Imperial Navy.

Cliche medieval plot but in a Sci-fi setting
Revisado: 06-05-24
The story sound familiar in most knights and castle stories. Empire is overtaken by a greedy advisor to the king. A lost prince is found or needed to rally the people to retake the kingdom and doing for truth, justice and freedom etc... Normally thats done to death but putting the setting in a futuristic timeline and the fact that there are plenty of side stories you can insert from the main one is probably what will keep it interesting enoughto see where this will go.
The narrator is ok, strong voice and delivery, he even sounds like Zachary Quinto (of star trek movies and heroes series) The only issue is that he only has a few voice variety. I can only differenciate maybe 3 voices for all the characters in the story. Wont know who unless their name is mentioned.
Im a fan of john van stry as well as his other pen name (john stryvant) which is main reason that I downloaded this audiobook. I enjoy his style of storytelling.

Historia
When people started to develop superpowers, the world changed forever. Me? I wasn't one of the lucky ones with powers. So I had to develop more mundane skills, skills which have taken me across the globe on dangerous missions. But there are some missions I’ve always had to refuse. I've never been able to take on a super. They're just too powerful. They're gods, whereas I'm just a man, even with all my knowledge and training. All that changes after I discover my dad's secret research project.

Nice Premise, Story is kind of high school level
Revisado: 05-05-23
I enjoy a superhero story as well as lite rpg style story. The use of these 2 aspects of this story is OK. Story is nice but not unqie. Its like that manga my hero academia and the tv series "The Boys" mixed together. These normally would make the the story interesting. The only thing that bothers me is the way main characters story and character was written. He someone whos doing the right thing but also like to wave his dick around just to show off. (hate those type of characters. His powers are kind of odd. He has the power to take and give powers, but only works on women he slept with with no proper explanation, even when the guy who gave him the powers is present for him to ask. That greatly limits where the story can go as well as sounding sexist. Hopefully, these can be rectified in later story.

Story good so far
Revisado: 03-24-23
Seeing how they hide from the humans is interesting. Also, despite the fantasy nature, a lot of supernatural are pretty modern (tablets, internet and coffee shops) What was interesting are the 2 princess in the elf city. They speak with what sounds like an indian accent even when the setting of the story is in europe.
It feels lackluster that the main protagonist only learned very few spells in the story so far and didn't really bother learning more since dragons are suppose to be full of magic and knowledge. Kind of like a guy with a build of a boxer but only knows how to jab but doesn't know how to hook or uppercut. Makes the action monotonous.

Feels like a story written by a horny teen
Revisado: 03-24-23
The story premise has promise. An average guy gets involved in a world of witches magic and must survive the assault of the antagonist while learning about his abilities and of course, the protagonist has a special ability most people don't have. Simple enough plot. The protagonist seems like nice enough guy who seems to enjoy every spectrum of the opposite sex (milf, Amazonian type woman, young girls, etc...) which makes me question his nice, principled guy persona earlier in the book (he says he's is in love and dedicated to one of the characters, yet has no issue making love with other women, even ones he's just met) On the other end of it, the first woman of the protagonist affections is just a regular, logical human who is all about truths and being faithful to one another, yet the next few chapters, she's open to the concept of open relationship with other women to share with his man (it's confusing)
As for the narrators, they have potential talent. They both can make multiple voices and emotions (especially the female narrator.) The issue is that when the male narrator reads the story, he sounds like a college lecturer (sort of monotonous and a little boring) and doesn't properly express the emotions the book is trying to imply (even the way he flirts and expresses pain sounds like he's just reading it rather than expressing it) Also, both narrators accents are inconsistent. The witch that suppose to be from Ireland only initially sounds irish (forcefully so) then mostly sounds american for the rest of the book, only sounding irish once in a while.
The only part that sounded pretty candid was the intimate scenes.
As for the magic, it is a new concept for me. People as familiars instead of an animal and that they can enhance a witch's powers instead of the way around and finally that they learn their magic thru a talking self writing book (ala Harry Potter style)
For now, i'll give this book an OK ans hopefully, the 2nd book can resolve some of these issues

Just as Fred is settling down in his new abode, he receives word that a favor is being called in, one he promised to a dangerously powerful member of otherworldly royalty. Bracing danger, adventure, and unknown threats, Fred is instead asked to take on an entirely different role than anticipated. Acting as interim professor at one of the few universities for supernatural entities, Fred will have to navigate a strange environment, eccentric coworkers, and unenthusiastic students. Yet that alone won't be enough, for this college has more history than the tales in its tomes.

The Drewverse now has a Hogwarts Arc. Though...
Revisado: 01-24-23
Drew hayes finally added a school element to the story. I know that it might not be necessary. Most of the main characters are above college age. But with a world full of different parahumans (mages, lycanthropes, and other supernatural creatures) in all ages, I partly expected but wasn't hoping for a school for said parahumans But here it is and I find stories of it...could've been better.
Make no mistake, i enjoyed the book, i just wished they were some parts they could've added more background or substories on. Whenever the stories discusses about accounting, they mostly just skip over it or just talk of it in passing, but I would've liked to hear some stories of how Fred taught his class and how he improved his students (like most school setting where the main character is the teacher and the students are unmotivated or the oddballs of the school)
Though finding certain secrets of the parahuman school is par of the course for most fantasy school, the book as a whole felt short despite it having the same length as the previous books. It's like a whole semester in whole was condensed in only a few short weeks. As well as some of the main cast importance was downplayed (e.g. bubba, lilian and even gregor)
Overall, good read/listen, just wished they could've added more depth on the school and class aspects

Nice Story, wierd pacing.
Revisado: 06-25-22
Although the story spunds run of the mill, i love how its told from the dozens of main characters perspective. I also love the intelligence of the main character yet has flaws most people can relate to. My main gripe with the story is how its paced. It gies from the main storyline to a flash back to the main storyline again but from another characters perspective. It cab get confusing sometimes. The ending could've been better. The epilogue of each character (both heroes and villains) couldve been elaborated more.

The pressure of being a super - especially a teen super - can get to anyone, as Jim (aka Kid Sensation) has witnessed firsthand. Now he wonders if he himself might be succumbing to the strain in some way, as he can't shake the feeling that he is now being watched by some new stalker. Moreover, despite his wide slate of powers, he hasn't been able to discover a single clue to substantiate the existence of this potential new enemy, making him wonder if it's all in his head.

It's OK
Revisado: 11-03-21
A young teen story with a young teen style of writing. Doesnt have a lot of deep narrative twist. Most of it is straight forward with very little loose ends. This is akin to a modern saturday morning cartoon. I also noted that there is very little character development to the secondary chracters (so far) e.g. Smokey, Electra and so on.

It's been slightly over a year since Kellan Thorne first accepted the Sentinel's mantel, and its power was renewed in him. He thought destroying an Arch Demon and banishing his Chaotic opposite would have brought him more respite than it did. Now Creation itself is under threat, by a Cabal of Angels and Demons who have found a way to shatter the foundational pillars of Time itself. This dire warning is brought to the young Sentinel by an unlikely messenger, who risks all to enlist the aid of God's unchecked hand on the world.

Great Story, but a few issues
Revisado: 06-13-21
Love the story, love the characters distinctive personalities and pop culture references, even some of the trivial facts (both the true and not true ones)
I have 2 main issues with the story so far:
First, the stories seems to jump over important plot points as well as disorienting on how much time has passed that I can't even track how old some of them are or if certain scenes happened after a few days or a few weeks. Example being that they skipped an entire chapter or two on how kellen got the 2nd artifact. Another is the first chapter was attending a convention which had a subplot about kellen's life being in a graphic novel then never hearing about it again. What was the point of the chapter then?
The second is that some of explanation to kellen's power felt half-hearted and somewhat confuaingly restrictive. Why is the power so limited and needs time to recharge? It was never establised how much power he has overall in a easy to understand number. Just that it grew. If he can construct magic shields and swords, why can't he construct other items like how green lanterns do it? If his power allows him to be stronger, faster and more agile heck he can slow time, he should've been to easily handle or withstand some of those antagonist or mini bosses.
Again I love the book series so far, but those above mentioned keeps nagging at me when I listened to it.
