Historia
“Shy” Hunt and the tech team from McAllen Integrations thought they’d have an easy job - set up environmental systems for the brand new Hasanova Data Solutions colony, built on the abandoned ruins of a complex known as “Charybdis”. There are just two problems: The colony belongs to the Iranian state, so diplomacy is strained at best, and the complex is located above a series of hidden caves that contain deadly secrets.

Not a bad story. I listened to it twice. Felt like another shatter in the ongoing saga. I wasn’t particularly moved but did enjoy the last few moments especially.

Historia
It is one of the most well-known and well-loved fantasy epics of the twentieth century: the story of Elric, emperor of the dying kingdom of Melniboné. For a hundred centuries the Melnibonéans have ruled from the Dragon Isle of Imrryr. Now, after years of corruption and decadence, Elric’s amoral cousin Prince Yyrkoon, the brother of his beloved Cymoril, sets his eyes on the Ruby Throne. Elric must face his treacherous cousin not as a warrior but as a sorcerer king once again in league with the ancient gods of Melniboné, the Chaos Lords, and thus sealing his inexorable fate.

The reader ruins...
Revisado: 02-10-18
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
A detailed nonfiction piece, there’s a great insight here.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The story is fascinating.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Words. Anecdotes became antidotes. Appellation became apealaation.
Within the first chapter, there’s a half dozen words that are just pronounced wrong. It detracts from the validity of the piece.
Did The Waco Siege: An American Tragedy inspire you to do anything?
Research.
Any additional comments?
Interesting. They should have done a pre read and made sure reader had all the words down.

Too much of the same
Revisado: 01-28-18
What did you like best about The Tide? What did you like least?
I actually turned it off twice. After the first time, I thought, I’m just being picky. I shut it off about 30 minutes later.
The main character “Dom,” risks his team to save his family. This major character flaw is brushed away with a simple statement that his team member basically have no attachments and exist in a void to serve Dom’s whim.
This is the same zombie story we’ve seen a hundred times. I don’t want to be hyper negative, but I was really disappointed.
Basically anything that says, “elite team,” is a pass.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I’m desperate to go back to professional authors. The rise of self publishing has removed the gatekeeper of quality. This makes it surprising difficult to find a good book. Though pulpy and dated, I’ll probably listen to Warlord of Mars next.
What three words best describe Ryan Kennard Burke’s voice?
Even, soft, dispassionate
Could you see The Tide being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
Ugh. Please no. Unless the stars are Story Editor and New Ideas, I think we can all agree we’ve seen this movie before. No need to repeat with a greater chance of failure.
Any additional comments?
I sort of want my credit back. I listen to three plus books a month and this one was just so flat.

Awkward
Revisado: 01-14-18
The dialogue in the story is awkward. It’s stilted and unnatural. The characters feel as if they are interpretations of things read in nonfiction books about Jack the Ripper.
