The New York Times best-selling author of the Tangled books returns with the third romance in the Legal Briefs series, a collection of sexy novels about first crushes, second chances, and the final verdict of the heart.
When Brent Mason looks at Kennedy Randolph, he doesn't see the awkward, sweet girl who grew up next door. He sees a self-assured, stunning woman...who wants to crush the most intimate - and prized - parts of his anatomy beneath the heels of her Louboutins.
When Kennedy looks at Brent, all she sees is the selfish, Abercrombie & Fitch catalogue-worthy teenager who humiliated her in high school in order to join the popular crowd. A crowd that made those years a living hell for her.
But she's not a lovesick social outcast anymore - she's a Washington, DC, prosecutor with a long winning streak. Brent is the opposing attorney in her next case, and Kennedy thinks it's time to put him through a little hell of his own.
But things aren't exactly working out the way she planned. Brent has his sights set on Kennedy, and every fiery exchange only makes him want her more - and makes her wonder if he's as passionate in the bedroom as he is in the courtroom. In the end they may just find themselves in love...or in contempt of court.

Would you listen to Appealed again? Why?
I liked it better the 1st time I listened to it. However, the second time all I heard was the snarky tremble of Deacon Lee's voice. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Emma Chase. I have all her Audio books and have listened to them all several times. I like that this is 1st person in the males perspective - Has the usual dry humor with laugh out loud moments. The characters are well developed. There is some "trip down memory lane" moments but they are done in a way that doesn't leave the listener confused. No insta-love and this is a stand alone story. It's an Emma Chase story what's not to love... Except the narrator :(If you’ve listened to books by Emma Chase before, how does this one compare?
Tangled is still my favorite. In this series probably Sustained. This is more a 2nd chance romance.Would you be willing to try another one of Deacon Lee’s performances?
NO...just no. He has so many voices and his female voice is actually less distracting then his normal narrative voice when he's not in character. When he portrays other male characters it's less shaky.. But when he's narrating the H...his voice is just whineyDeacon Lee is NOT Alpha Male

I had some problems with the premise, which involved Brent and Kennedy being best friends from birth to high school, at which point there were numerous misunderstandings. While teens can be blinded by hormones and wild mood swings, I found it difficult to accept that they were suddenly ready to believe the absolute worse of each other.
Kennedy seemed to have a split personality; she was an adventurous child, a passive teen victim, and a bitter adult. Who was the real Kennedy? Why didn't she fight back against the high school bullies; if her life was a "living hell" than she didn't have anything to lose. While I appreciated that the problem of "bullying" was spotlighted in the plot, I was disappointed that no suggestions were given for dealing with bullies.
I absolutely loved that Brent was in therapy, making him more aware of his feelings and those of others. Brent was one of the most appealing male characters I have "read" lately, an engaging mix of swaggering male and playful child. However, it didn't make sense that he never attempted to contact Kennedy in the 14 years since high school; she was "the one" for him, yet Brent just waited around hoping to see her again. Facebook anyone?
The extended epilogue was the best part - wrapping up the lives of all the partners in very satisfying ways. Well Done!
Entertaining & Non-violent

Brent and Kennedy grew up within the privileged and exclusive community in the suburbs of Washington DC. Their parents were friends and their mothers were pretty much best buddies, joined at the hip. They are one another's best friends until those awkward teenage years hit. It is then that Kennedy overhears some of Brent's friends talking about her in an unflattering way. She sticks out high school and seemingly disappears.
Brent still seems wrapped up in the life of privilege as he has a butler - leaving me perplexed as the listener but also is the perfect straightman comedy character.
Brent sees Kennedy many years later (she is a federal prosecutor) and he is gob smacked! He always knew she was smart but now she is gorgeous.
They must face one another in the courtroom but will they be able to keep their relationship both professional and sizzling?
This is a fun, sweet and sexy third installment in the LEGAL BRIEFS series. Each (perhaps with the exception of SIDEBAR) can be read as a standalone, in my opinion. However if you have the opportunity to read each back to back you won't miss out on anything. In order: OVERRULED, SUSTAINED, APPEALED and 2.5 hour novella SIDEBAR. In order: OVERRULED, SUSTAINED, APPEALED and 2.5 hour novella SIDEBAR
There are two very different opinions regarding the male narrators. I found each of them; Jason Carpenter, Sebastian York x2 and Deacon Lee all very solid, believable performers. If I have to choose a favorite I would choose Sebastian York.
Overall five stars
