Acerca de esta escucha

In London’s MI5 headquarters a scandal is brewing that could disgrace the entire intelligence community. The Downing Street superforecaster—a specialist who advises the Prime Minister’s office on how policy is likely to be received by the electorate—has disappeared without a trace. Claude Whelan, who was once head of MI5, has been tasked with tracking her down.

But the trail leads him straight back to Regent’s Park itself, with First Desk Diana Taverner as chief suspect. Has Taverner overplayed her hand at last? Meanwhile, her Russian counterpart, Moscow intelligence’s First Desk, has cheekily showed up in London and shaken off his escort. Are the two unfortunate events connected?

Over at Slough House, where Jackson Lamb presides over some of MI5’s most embittered demoted agents, the slow horses are doing what they do best, and adding a little bit of chaos to an already unstable situation …

There are bad actors everywhere, and they usually get their comeuppance before the credits roll. But politics is a dirty business, and in a world where lying, cheating and backstabbing are the norm, sometimes the good guys can find themselves outgunned.

I don't know if there's another one coming (or more) in the series, but their eas could/should be. I thought the River mystery was brilliant suspense and excellent writing.

excellent

A good entertainment of spy and political intrigue, and a suitable companion for the treadmill or long walks. Suggest “reading” the series in order, or seeing the movie first before reading this next in the series.

Fun continuation of the Slough House story

The character development is spot on- and the humor of the interactions can be laugh out loud funny. Am sorry to have caught up to the author and am now waiting for more- but this one and the fantastic Gerard Doyle narrating does not disappoint.

Ensemble characters and narrator in peak form

This series has it all. Suspense, politics, & cigarettes. Characters in good places and good characters in nasty places. Performed most excellently!

Riveting with an ironic Humor!

The Slow Horses series has everything you would want in a story… intrigue, political doings and humor. The characters are interesting, quirky and very likable. The narration is fantastic. I cannot wait for the next book now that I have finished all of them! My day feels incomplete without being able to listen to an episode of Mick Herron’s books read by Gerard Doyle!

This series has it all

The familiar Slough House and assorted characters are more nuanced and layered in this wonderful latest (and I hope not last!!) addition to the series. I found it an intriguing and complicated story this time out, especially in the characterizations of Jackson Lamb, Diana Taverner, and Shirley Dander. Other characters (old and new) shine in unexpected ways. I only hope there will be at least one more book in the series to tie up some loose ends (River!). I’m also anxious to see how the newest characters develop. Narration was, as always, terrific.

Masterful

…full marks for riveting action scenes and an interesting storyline. Even if it did use the too common device of cart before horse or whatever its official name is. I understand why but still.

Agree with reviewer requesting more River but….

Enjoyed the book. Narration is excellent. Plot twists are just a little confusing at times.

A little hard to follow

Only the British can write spy dramas with such style and intrigue! Mick Herron is the very best creating stories that take one back to the U.K., the people, their customs and unique daily lives. Wonderful tales from across the pond!

MI5 At It’s Best!

Only Secret Hours is better than Bad Actors. Herron is wonderful; choice of narrator puzzling. Wish would re-record series w Loudon, Reeves, other cast. Jason Isaacs or Paterson Joseph would do a great job as well. But great, great book.

Best of the series/his 2nd best book
