Three sisters.
One evil killer.
This is the complete Bayou Magic Series.
Shadows
I am never alone. Not even when I am alone. I see the unquiet dead, the souls that wander through the French Quarter. They can’t move on, and I can’t stop seeing them. I wear malachite for protection, and I control what I let in. It’s the only way to stay sane. Everything changes the day Cassian Winslow joins my ghost walking tour and knocks my world off its axis with green eyes the color of the stone around my neck. An unspeakable evil is loose in New Orleans, taking young women and leaving a bloodbath in his wake. More shadows lurking for me. More unhappy dead. There might be a way to stop it. Open myself up to Cassian. If I do, it could spell his death. But if I don’t, it’s mine.
Spells
As a powerful hedgewitch and psychic, there isn’t much I can’t work to my advantage and finesse with a spell. Love, fortune, and even the perfect cup of coffee are all possible with the snap of my fingers. But some things are utterly beyond my control. Like the powerful and broody warlock who’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember—and even the lifetimes I often can’t. Things almost as dangerous as Lucien Bergeron’s hold on me and the breathtaking smiles only I get to see. Or the evil still stalking the streets of New Orleans that beckons to me to see. To feel. To die. With everything riding on a razor's-edge, and things that have been portended coming to fruition, threatening both me and those I love, I’m not sure if I’m strong enough to resist my fate. Or his charm. If I work with Lucien, it could mean the end for both of us. If I don’t, those I love most will pay.
Serendipity
My sight is a gift and also a curse. It cost me the love of my life. We may have been young, but some things you don’t get over. Like being the cause of the biggest tragedy of your boyfriend’s life. It’s something I’ll never forget, and a reflection of who I am. But now that Jackson’s back in town, with scars and a hero’s badge of honor, it’s time for me to be brave, too. A malevolent evil hell-bent on making my sisters and me pay for rebuffing him is still stalking my family, and some ancient writings portended that the six were the only ones who could defeat him. Jackson Pruitt and I round out that magical number, which means I have to face the evil and the things Jack makes me feel, to save my family and my city. I never sought to reconnect with Jack. Working with him now means opening myself up to my feelings for him. Refusing means destruction for us all.

When you can't remember what you read the day before, and can't recognize the characters from day to day, it's time to bail. These sister witches can't compare to Anne Rice's REAL witches, & seem lacking in many witchy skills we expect in the most mundane coven.
Why didn't their witchy vibes alert them to the desperate situation of their aged mother who existed in a house that was literally falling down around her - while being harassed by her vengeful dead husband's ghost? It's complicated.
Another major speed bump: The only classic New Orleans mansion is owned by a BACHELOR - who claims he was married to our heroine for the past 400 years - off and on - though she doesn't remember it. The Garden District must have blushed in shame to learn that it's gracious homes, filled with antiques & dressed with silk draperies, were replaced with 'affordable' homes in the suburbs. Not one twitch of the nose to transform the mundane to the magnificent.
Nothing of the "real" New Orleans was experienced by this pearl-clutching coven. The Cafe Du Monde's sugar-coated beignets and Cafe Au Lait were diminished to 'spell enhanced' coffee at the coven's "Witch's Brew" hangout. No re-living of the fine dining experienced in New Orleans - seafood that makes you swoon & gumbo that creates it's own magic.
There was no mention of the sound of the caliope as it pumps out tweedily notes of Sing-A-Long songs while tourists board the paddle wheeler to glide over the muddy Mississippi. No visual description of huge oak trees whose Spanish moss dripped down like melting frosting. No mention of the clopping of hooves on brick streets. No blasts of Dixieland jazz as you passed a bar & grill in The Quarter. The Grand Lady was replaced with Middle Class Wives.
If you're entertained by 'happily ever after' scenarios that only take place in fiction from the Hallmark channel, you'll be enthralled with this book. I understand that this is the author's niche. But, I had to wonder if the author had ever really visited - much less researched - New Orleans - before writing this compendium of paper-wrapped chocolates tucked into a fancy box.
The narrator was just so-so, and my years in the South whispered that her Southern accent was NOT native - which left the narrative without a believable "y'all" throughout. This story, narrative and performance all reminded me of those old romantic comedies of the past - without the winking charm of a young Matthew McConaughey to add some twinkle to our eyes & more appreciation of the de rigueur lady-like heavy breathing love scenes. If you love this premise, you'll give this book a higher rating. But for me, it failed it's basic premise: to be a believable paranormal fantasy based in a REAL location. Returning for a refund!
