Acerca de esta escucha

Can we engage in prayer that is more effective, less harmful, and doesn't make God look bad?

Theologian, therapist, and ordained pastor Mark Karris offers a first-of-a-kind audiobook that explores petitionary prayer alongside theodicy, social justice, and personal moral responsibility. Is petitionary prayer an archaic and superstitious practice better left for old-time religious folk? Is there a more effective method of praying that doesn't put all the responsibility on God? Mark Karris tackles these questions and much, much more!

Rich with theological wisdom, provocative insights, and enormously practical, Divine Echoes journeys through the investigation, deconstruction, and reconstruction of petitionary prayer. Karris also reveals a revolutionary model of petitionary prayer that he refers to as "conspiring prayer". Filled with real-life examples and case studies, this audiobook will inform and equip both individuals and churches to pray transformative and subversive prayers that will increase God's love, healing, and beauty in the world.

I’ve been listening to the auditory version of “Divine Echoes: Reconciling Prayer With the Uncontrolling Love of God” this week during my commute and it has confirmed my instincts about prayer with God. I have always wrestled with finding appropriate prayer dialogue especially when facing grievous and complicated injustices. Mark Gregory Karris has done an excellent job of giving examples of how to pray and the reasons why praying in this “partnering stance” is more effective than the typical “God please fix everything” mode. Knowing God‘s true nature seems to be at the heart of why we pray in this posture and he quotes from many of the most profound Bible scholars & theologians of our day. I think that open and relational theology is gaining ground, and that his “course correction” on prayer is right in sync with this dynamic understanding.

When prayer and loving theology meet

I really enjoyed this somewhat alternative view of how prayer works. In the end this book is not only about prayer but also a call to action for Christians to get on with the work of healing the world.

Thought provoking

Exceeded my expectations! Offered a deep and beautiful perspective on prayer that has helped revive my prayer life. From answering questions on why God doesn't answer prayers to examining the way that we pray and why different ways of praying can enrich our relationship with God and revolutionize our prayers and navigation through this world, I was impressed with the research and perspectives covered 8n the book. FULL of great insights and challenges!

By Far the Best Book on Prayer that I have Read!
