The EMP hits. The lights go out and silence roars. Society is on the brink of violent chaos. The only way to survive is to get out, away from the cities and into the wilderness.

Max is an office worker with some gear and a plan. He's one of the first to realize the unspoken dangers. A few years ago, he inherited an old farmhouse. Mandy is a waitress with the day off work. What seems like a normal power outage quickly turns terrifying. Her peaceful town is no longer the home she once knew. She's offered a way out, but can she put her trust in a perfect stranger?

Georgia is a single mother who just wants to keep his two teenage kids safe. She drives a pickup and loves hunting. She has skills that could keep her family alive, but is she ready to make life or death decisions in the blink of an eye?

Do Max, Mandy, and Georgia have what it takes to overcome the unexpected? After all, even the best-laid plans can come up short.

Loved this series! Love that there are 8 books on this series! The author gives us 8 books to enjoy and get yo know these characters. He.puts them into different situations and you have no idea if they will fail or get through it. He even had some parts that reminded me of a zombie book but not a zombie. There is a lot for everyone in this series. Narration as always was amazing.

the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars on performance is because I would home for multiple actors. male, female voices, that sort of thing

great narration but the book was very short. I was left wanting the second book right away

...because I enjoy EMP survival stories and what I can learn from them. There was so much thinking going on I was riddled with anxiety or bored before the person ever reacted. At times I just wanted to say get on with it already.
Kevin Pierce's narration was stellar as always but couldn't help the book enough.

Good start to the series

The Good: Moves forward at a good pace.
offers many situations to ponder over, helping a newbie prepper get their mind working.
Characters are likable and yet get some feeling for their plight.

Bad: Time, it's lacking completely in the book. You have no idea how long anything takes. The story moves along from one problem after another without any guidance as to time. you get from page one to the last page in seemingly 3 or 4 days. Ludacris.
character building happens by literally telling you and a quick summary who each person is without building any substance around it.
A lot of what happens lacks substance and logic.
It's as if the writer had an idea, made a timeline and then filled in a bit of detail often without a lot of thought and nearly no meat to chew on.

I found myself saying, don't be stupid! And what just happened?! Weren't we just at...

All this said. I don't feel it's worth a credit. it is with a daily sale offering at around $3 and you will get at least something from it.
Narration, was fair, almost good. Not great. Great in my book is damn hard to achieve.
My standards are high, especially after listening to Bray amongst others.

Characters start as losers and stay losers, at least by the middle part of the book, where I just stopped listening.
