Acerca de esta escucha

Lays of Ancient Rome is an 1842 collection of narrative poems by Thomas Babington Macaulay. Four of these: Horatius, The Battle of Lake Regillus, Virginia and The Prophecy of Capys cover heroic episodes from early Roman history. They have brief introductions that treat the legends from a scholarly perspective.

Two others deal with more recent historical events: Ivry, a Song of the Huguenots, deals with French history, and The Armada: A Fragment, is about the Spanish fleet sent to subdue England. They became immensely popular in Victorian England, and were standard reading in British public schools for more than a century.

This should-be excellent title is entirely stymied by awful narration. Completely monotone and lacking any semblance of emotion or inflection. Pronunciation is often poor and slow. Excellent prose and poetry for some reason read by someone unfamiliar with the work or story, giving it no character as it’s read in a completely dead and clinical style suffocating all the emotion and dramatic moments in what should be a rich story.

Unfortunate Narration

my mom got me this audiobook to help memorize it for school. I used it allot because I had trouble memorizing it. it helped for memorization. but if you wanted to listen to it for fun. I don't think you would get far. don't get me wrong I loved the story but the narration was.... not very good. I'm just glad my teacher, friends and family were there to help me memories it.

not for me but I was Desperate

It's really not good. The poetry is amazing but it is read very poorly, completely monotone, zero emotion, plus the reader struggles over pronunciation. and the commentary is unbearable. Don't waste your money.

Ruined it

I am not normally one to indulge in complaining, but it was with a great deal of hopeful anticipation that I’d purchased this one, and I found myself skipping forward to get past the readers commentary on the book. I’d simply wanted to hear the Lays of Ancient Rome, not suffer the readers views and unnecessary insights.
