Acerca de esta escucha

From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, the eleventh installment in the world-renowned Sharpe series, chronicling the rise of Richard Sharpe, a Private in His Majesty’s Army at the siege of Seringapatam.

In the winter of 1811, the war seems lost. Spain has fallen to the French, except for Cadiz, now the Spanish capital and itself under siege. Inside the city walls an intricate diplomatic dance is taking place and Richard Sharpe faces more than one enemy.

The small British force is trapped by a French army, and their only hope lies with the outnumbered redcoats outside refusing to admit defeat. There, in the sweltering horror of Barrosa, Sharpe will meet his old enemy Colonel Vandal once again.

I have listened to hundreds of historical fiction novels, and have listened to this series in chronological order. Bernard Cornwell is among the few best in this genre. This book was well read, had intriguing and complex battle strategy and all the drama and heroism that I crave. I really enjoyed hearing that Captain Sharpe finally took a bath.

Well done in every way

Cadiz and French and Spanish treachery. A French officer imprisoned British soldier sent for a flag of truce. Sharpe is determined to get revenge and gets an opportunity when the British attack a hill against an outnumbering force of French. There was a large Spanish force nearby but they refused to engage.

One of my favorites! The story never slows down. The narrator really brings it home.

My only complaint is the accent choice for the Spanish/American woman. What in the world is that accent supposed to be? It sure doesn’t sound American. It’s like the author is trying to mimic the voice of a modern Jewish woman from New York City. It sticks out badly in this reading.

Overall Another great Sharpe story

Second time listening to this humble Hero! Liked better the second time around! Still hung on every word of the Battle and understood it even better the second time around.

Bernard Cornwall’s words of description are better than any video could ever be!

Second time listening to this humble Hero!

As usual Cornwell has come through. I am listening to all of his Sharpe novels for the second time. I particularly liked Sharpe's Fury.
It is a great story with a superb narrator. I have had fun reading and looking at battle maps of the actual Napolianic battles and following where Sharpe and his riflemen we're.
superb! And a lot of fun listening to this amazing tale.

really a good historical fiction

Bernard Cornwell keeps things moving with this episode of Richard Sharpe’s adventures. And Rupert Farley does his usual great job with all the voices. I think this particular book was a good one and an improvement over the previous books. They’re all fun mind you but a couple of them zoo drag here and there. This wasn’t one of them.

Always a fun listen with Rupert Farley

Bernard Cornwell is a pro who consistently produces polished and solid stories.

performance is a stand out on this one. Instead of the wispy, frail imitation of women that most male performers attempt, this was a hearty, human reading that did what Cornwell does on the page and renders a confident individual who happens to be female. it makes this story even more entertaining.

very entertaining

I only criticism is that every single one of these books should come with a historical note, explaining the battle or the circumstances

Fun history
