As a single father, I often feel like the weight of the world sits on my shoulders. When my daughter’s nanny gives me her two weeks’ notice, I’m sweating bullets. Fear that my NHL season with the New England Bay Sharks could be derailed consumes me.

Finding a replacement seems impossible when, suddenly, Maci McKenzie—a struggling author who’s running from some deep, dark secret in her past—steps into the picture. She needs a change of scenery to help her write, and I just need someone who isn’t a complete weirdo to watch my kid when I’m not around.

As we grow closer, I learn she’s struggling to write the so-called “spicy” scenes. And, well, me being the nice fella I am, I offer my assistance and show her how a real man should treat a woman in between the sheets. It’s the perfect deal really. I get off, and she gets the inspiration she needs to write a book.

And not just any book… a hockey romance book.

But like all deals, it’s not black-and-white. Soon, I find myself falling in love with the woman. But the closer I get to her… the further she pulls away. Then, I finally find out what’s haunting her from her past.

Whoever says the truth will set you free has never heard a secret like this one.

This had a great story with quite a bit of spice to it! I loved it!

I love Hannah’s books! And hearing them come to life is just as amazing!
The story is already great!
The narration just brings that extra level to it! Both narrators did a wonderful job bringing Logan and Maci to life!

Another Hannah Gray book done beautifully !

So many plot points make no sense, especially the drama surrounding the car accident. Not a fan.

Kind of Awful

The story is going along fine enough, entertaining and very spicy. There were flaws that are easily enough overlooked: the author keeps telling us the the MMC is funny, but never makes us laugh, and the delivery is the same old gruff and stoic manly thing. The kid is way too articulate for a toddler. There’s a “big scare” that is never scary for us as readers.
Then “the twist” arrives, and the FMC feels guilty for something that isn’t her fault and - even worse - the MMC reacts to it with overblown anger. And it just ruins the whole thing: he’s no longer appealing but a thoughtless anger management case. She’s no longer an accomplished woman but someone who cries and pleads when she should be standing up for herself. Even the female best friend cries and does emotional labour for this guy when she should be just calling him out.
The narrators do a great job (other than never trying to make a joke sound like a joke?) but the material makes me want to punch the MMC in the face.
