This story kept me listening, a bit of suspense along with faith. The stories are best listened to in order but it's not necessary.

A great story with a bit of an edge

In The Kiverson Case by Julie C. Gilbert, Ann and Patrick Duncan, now married two years after several years as law enforcement partners, take part in the arrest of the Kiverson family, where they capture the father, John, but where Emilia Kiverson, the mother manages to kill herself despite Ann's attempt to stop her. Her three children, Ben, Angela, and Kevin, watch on a tablet from cameras in the house. Full of feelings of hatred, Kevin determines to get revenge.

Later, Ann picks up the phone at her FBI office in Washington D.C. to hear a voice on a voice changer but which she thinks belongs to a man. Then her cell phone rings with the same man. Patrick soon gets calls from the same man. And the man challenges them to five tasks, each of which will result in death to others if they don't succeed. What is worse, the man threatens Ann and Patrick's 8-month-old son, Joseph. They must race to complete these tasks or face serious consequences.

The Kiverson Case is not a long book, but it has a creative story. The details of the tasks prove interesting and dramatic. We feel invested in the personal safety of Ann and Patrick, as well as baby Joseph. We also connect with Ben, the youngest Kiverson brother, who has come to realize his mother was not killed by the FBI agents but instead took her own life. He has qualms about targeting the Duncans. Further, we become intrigued by Kevin, who shows real maniacal vengeance.

This book is a Christian mystery. For example, Ann and Patrick pray for protection and peace in their risky situations. They also give the Christian message of salvation to a character in ther book and pray for him to find God. It depends upon how strongly a reader cares about issues of belief as to how much that person will be bothered by this.

Kristin Condon performs the audio version of this book. With her gentle voice, she seems an unusual choice to narrate a book like this. Usually they are performed by a more dynamic narrator.
But she succeeds in making the book enjoyable. I did not like the sound effects in this book though. Each chapter begins with a short musical selection that feels uncomfortable. Further, the phone calls with the voice changer seem strange in their sound effects, but what is worse, they garble the sound so that I had a hard time understanding the speech.

I really liked The Kiverson Case and enjoyed listening to it. For such as relatively short book, it packs plenty of exciting material and good character development. I give this book five stars.

This story led the Duncans into a unique game of life and death. Great story! This was a great read. I love a good mystery and adventure. I read the eBook quite some time ago and it is such a good read I enjoyed it as much listening to it now. This book added the special quality of being a clean, Christian story. Looking forward to the next one.

The narration was very good. Brought the characters and story to life.

Julie Gilbert has delivered a great story!

FBI Special Agents Julie Ann and Patrick Duncan are pulled into a case that gets very personal for them. When one man’s personal vendetta targets the agents, they are in a race to keep the ones they love safe.

Read other books by her, and have enjoyed them. This was the first of the FBI series, with the married couple of Julie and Patrick. The revenge of Kevin, was a tight plot, and the target was their son. Good plot, characters were good. Looking forward to reading more in this series
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Good

This was an enjoyable story that kept my attention well. I enjoyed the story line and the continuing drama with the characters from book one. I’d continue to read this story as more in the series comes out!

Negatives: the special effects. I don’t care for the music between chapters at all. And I don’t care for the simulated voice they use in this book for the electronic style voice. Not my favorites. Otherwise, a very good book!

I received this copy for free in exchange for my honest review.

Book two of the "Heartfelt Cases" was good. Kevin Kiverson held a grudge against FBI Special Agents Julie Ann and Patrick Duncan. Kevin masterminded an elaborate game through which he hoped to trap the FBI special agents. I enjoyed the story. I liked the obstacles that the two FBI Agents faced, but they were almost too good at their jobs and in their interrelationship with each other which made them seem unrealistic. Kristin Condon's narration was fine but lacked expressiveness. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

Good Christian Mystery

A family where each member seems to have committed a horrific crime. So what chance has three children, left hiding, after a raid on their home.
However, it's only one of those children that has a payback complex, that our two favorite FBI agents need to really worry about.
Particularly when said sibling decides to play deadly games.

Glad I'm not a member of this crime family!

The Kiverson Case by Julie C Gilbert.
Heartfelt Cases book 2

I love the shorter length of the book without missing out on content. The author has not rushed the elements, but has written a good evening’s read.

Patrick and Ann are married now, and are still partners in the FBI. I love when she introduces them as Agent Duncan and my husband Agent Duncan.

They are involved in what they believed would be a routine arrest of a crime family known for trafficking, murder, fraud, etc. They are to arrest the father and mother and bring in the adult children for questioning. During the arrest the mother commits suicide and Ann is blamed for the death.

Kevin Kiverson leads the Duncans in a game that could easily turn deadly. When the baby becomes a target, things heat up.

Great easy read with plenty of suspense and tension.

After listening to the audiobook of the first book in the Heartfelt Cases series, and not being overly impressed, I was a little reluctant to try The Kiverson Case. But, I'm glad I did. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I did like this second book in the series by Julie C. Gilbert.

While not a riveting psychological story, it is a nice easy to read/listen romantic suspense novel and it made a decent diversion while completing daily tasks. One of the things that I really appreciated about this book is that Julie C. Gilbert's hero and heroine are a married couple which made that dynamic quite different from most romantic suspense novels.

As with the first book in the Heartfelt Cases series, I listened to The Kiverson Case in audiobook. I did like the narrator's voice, and she did a good job differentiating characters by using different 'voices', but there were some technical issues and a distracting amount of mispronounced words. Not a top notch production, but, it was OK. I don't regret listening and I plan on 'reading' the next book in the series.

(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
