As much as I enjoyed Season One, I have to say that this book is a step up, of course we are starting from a few set ups provided by Season One. After all, The team is disbanded, and the new government controlled team is out collecting/arresting (not sure how to call it) free agent supers in order to use them like weapons, and the US of A's main Govt. Leaders got whacked when the White House got Wiped out. There are other plots popping up as well that include some time travel antics (Yay!), and more alien action. With all the prior book's set up, this book is free to rage ahead full bore, being unencumbered by the need to inform the reader of who and what was going on. This helps free the big PC to write away without restraint, and it pays off in spades.

Like I said before in the first novel's review, this is an homage to comics of th 80's, although it does have some Civil War elements in play, as we do have heroes who either work for the govt or those who get snagged, bagged, and tagged. The various plot threads are interwoven quite nicely, and do not seemed as forced by plot necessity as they were in book one. I really think PC is finding his stride, and it is working out well story wise.

Additionally, I actually appreciate the cover. While it is not amazing it is a great step forward from the video gamish style that Vanguard 1 looked like. I also understand that many people may have thought that the original cover too much like a comic book, but I didn't like the computerized version at all. This is a major step up and it makes me feel better, as the cover is serious, and has a heroic stance going for it. My only question, if the second book is Season 2 why does it say Season 1 on the cover?

Wilson does another outstanding job here, carrying on the fine work that he did in book one. I think he is an excellent narrator, and will be doing a lot of work in the future. He carries the story well, and never lets his listener down. I will reiterate that he can play both hero and villain equally well. Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and in fact, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.
