大家好，明天我就将从美国出发前往日本。在九州、鹿儿岛玩一个星期，然后到长野的白马村和松本再玩一个星期，接着前往中国待一个月，7月14日回到美国。七月中下旬，我还会去看三场 Blackpink 的演唱会，分别在芝加哥和纽约！

这个夏天我还会教两个一对一的中文暑期课程，帮助学生完成跳级目标。这期节目是一次旅行前的暑期更新，接下来的两周我可能不会更新，但整个暑假期间仍有机会继续和大家见面。

我十分期待这次日本之行，也希望大家的夏天都精彩充实！

Hi everyone! Tomorrow I’ll be leaving the U.S. for Japan. I’ll spend a week traveling in Kyushu and Kagoshima, then another week in Hakuba and Matsumoto in Nagano. After that, I’ll head to China for a month and return to the U.S. on July 14. In the second half of July, I’ll be going to three Blackpink concerts—one in Chicago and two in New York!

This summer, I’ll also be teaching two one-on-one intensive Chinese courses to help students skip a level. This episode is a summer update before I head off. I may not post in the next two weeks, but I’ll likely reconnect again later this summer.

I’m really looking forward to this trip to Japan, and I hope your summer is fun and fulfilling too!

Following up on the last episode, this time I explore why mean doesn’t have a fixed translation in Chinese. Is it “讨厌” (annoying)? Or “刻薄” (mean-spirited)? In Mandarin, the right expression depends on tone, relationship, and context. I also touch on an interesting angle: how do men and women respond differently when someone says “You’re so mean”? I reflect on how Americans are used to long road trips due to geography, affordable gas, and good highway infrastructure, while in China, people often prefer high-speed trains or planes for similar distances. I also invite listeners to share what kind of travel feels “far” to them.
