  • A Mental Health Journey: Sobriety, Panic Attacks & Finding Purpose
    Jul 1 2025

Ep. 55 | Climbing Mental Mountains: One Man’s Mission to Make Mental Health Help More Accessible

Warning: This episode includes discussion of depression, suicidal thoughts, and mental health struggles. It's raw and real, but also filled with hope, healing, and the power of showing up for yourself (and others).

We’re talking about climbing mental mountains, the kind you don’t see on a map.

In this episode, my friend Keith Batenhorst shares his experience with scaling mountains, from panic attacks and self-medication to scaling Grand Teton, Mount Whitney, and Kilimanjaro.

But this isn’t just about the peaks. It’s about the valleys in between and how Keith found his purpose in building the Mental Mountains Project, a nonprofit that helps others access life-saving therapy by covering the costs.

We talk about what it means to show up when everything inside you says to quit, and how choosing vulnerability and community over perfection can change the entire trajectory of a life. Or in Keith’s case, many lives.

    🎧In this episode:
[03:30] Mental health journey begins: Panic attacks, isolation & self-medication
[20:45] The turning point: A mentor, a goal, and Grand Teton
[50:00] Reaching the summit… and waking up the next day
[58:30] From pain to purpose: The Mental Mountain Project
[1:12:15] Miles for Mental Health + fundraising with heart

If you’ve ever felt lost, stuck, or unsure how to keep going, this one’s for you.

It’s about the grit that lives inside all of us. The kind that doesn’t just conquer mountains, it climbs them again and again; not because it’s easy, but because it matters.

    BIO:
Keith is the founder of the non-profit Mental Mountains Project, an organization that raises money and awareness for those who can’t afford therapy services. Keith is an aspiring endurance athlete who entered the mountaineering and endurance world in an effort to overcome his own self-limiting beliefs on what he was capable of, while inspiring a community of people burdened by their own self-doubts that they’re capable of still pursuing their dreams. Keith lives by the motto of “showing up,” believing that by consistently choosing his attitude and effort, he can help create a world where all things are possible—for himself and for others.

  • Setting Down the Weight: Healing Childhood Conditioning Through RTT Hypnosis
    Jun 17 2025

Ep 53: How Subconscious Programming Shapes Our Health w/ Carey Weiss

What if your struggles with health, weight, or emotional well-being aren’t about discipline, but decades-old subconscious programming?

In this episode of Homes That Heal, I talk with Carey from Love of My Life Energetics, who brings a multifaceted healing approach as a nurse, certified hypnotherapist (C. Hyp.), Akashic Records Reader, Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT®) practitioner, and Energy Medicine Practitioner, about the sneaky ways our early childhood beliefs get wired into our nervous system—and how they silently run the show in our adult lives.

From binge eating to burnout, RTT helps clients trace their struggles back to their origins, then gently rewires the brain for safety, peace, and freedom. We dig into how trauma patterns form and how you can begin to release what no longer serves you, starting with your thoughts.

Whether you’ve tried all the diets, struggle with body trust, or simply crave a calmer, more healing home, this conversation is a powerful reminder: you are not broken. And your body might just be doing its best to keep you safe.

[4:20] – 🧠 Your brain on trauma: Why we repeat old patterns (and how RTT interrupts them)
[7:30] – From burnout to breakthrough: Carey's pivot to RTT
[25:20] – 💥 Jen’s RTT session: the breakthrough that cracked it all open
[28:20] – ✨ Why language matters: “Weight loss” vs “weight release”
    [1:15:10]– 🛋️ How your home environment either supports—or sabotages—healing

    🎙️ ABOUT CAREY

    Mark Heller’s Bio:

With a B.A. in marketing and nearly two decades of experience in residential property management, Mark Heller has honed his expertise in managing hundreds of properties, including Dane County’s largest residential communities, multi-family buildings, and flipped homes in and around Madison, WI.

In 2020, Mark pivoted from flipping properties to focus on residential property management and hard money lending. This transition was sparked by a frustrating experience with a simple loan refinance, which motivated him to explore alternative financial solutions. The discovery of the Infinite Banking Concept (IBC) through a real estate mastermind group was a turning point. After reading R. Nelson Nash’s Becoming Your Own Banker, Mark knew this strategy aligned perfectly with his vision for financial independence.

Today, Mark is passionate about teaching others how to leverage IBC to achieve financial freedom. When he’s not strategizing or assisting friends with real estate deals, he enjoys traveling, exploring National Parks, and spending time with his wife, Jen, and their beloved cats in southern Wisconsin.

    Bio:
Shawna Buenger is the owner and founder of Nevie LoRu. She is an artist, a budget-friendly interior decorator, and a business owner. After a career in high-end property management and development, she quit her job to stay at home with her kiddos. She found herself still searching for a creative outlet and turned to the walls of her own home. Shawna had always loved to create large-scale paintings, and basically all aspects of the creative process, so she took the principles she had learned from interior designers she worked with in property development and applied them to her home.

Shawna discovered that she loved interior design and renovated every home she had, along with friends' and families' homes. When her husband and she built a home together, she told him that she wanted to create the designs and visions she had in my head, not hire a designer. Their home became the catalyst for her hobby, turning into her business. After her children were all in school, her focus became Nevie LoRu. Her daughters are the inspiration for her company's name.

Shawna absolutely loves being able to find stylish options for her clients that do not cost a small fortune. She believes everyone is entitled to a beautiful home that suits their style and needs without having to keep up with every design trend. Shawna works with clients to remodel, renovate, and transform spaces, mostly in residential homes, but also on commercial projects. She works with all budgets, all speeds, and as hands-on as her clients need her to be.
