  • Lake Guntersville Fishing Report: Memorial Day Weekend Bonanza on the Ledges
    May 25 2025
This is Artificial Lure with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for Sunday, May 25, 2025. The early summer pattern is setting in strong and the bite around the lake has been outstanding as we roll into Memorial Day weekend.

Weather this morning is classic late May for North Alabama, with mild temps in the upper 60s at sunrise, expected to climb into the low 80s this afternoon. Winds are light out of the southwest, which should keep the water moving just enough to fire up those ledge bites. Sunrise came at 5:38 AM and sunset will be right around 7:46 PM, giving us a long day on the water and some prime early and late windows for topwater action.

Water temps have continued to rise after a slight pullback earlier in the month, with many areas showing temps between 74 and 78 degrees. Recent rain bumped water levels a touch, but clarity has held fairly steady on the main lake, with a light stain in the backs of creeks.

Bass fishing has been red hot, with fish moving out to those classic Guntersville ledges as the shad spawn wraps up. The bite is strongest on main river ledges and deeper humps, especially mid-morning through midday once the sun gets up. Anglers are putting up impressive numbers, and tournament weigh-ins last week saw plenty of 5-fish limits pushing 20 pounds. Most of the big bags are coming on football jigs and big worms worked slow on those deeper drops. Tight Line Chatterbaits, Missile D-Bombs, and SPRO DD60 crankbaits are also getting it done, especially when the current picks up later in the afternoon. The topwater bite is still good at daybreak, with buzzbaits and walking baits drawing strikes along grass edges and over shallow shell beds.

Crappie anglers are still finding fish, with good numbers coming from brush piles and deep docks. Minnows and small jigs under slip floats have been the ticket.

Bluegill are bedding in the shallows, providing bonus action around the full moon and drawing bass nearby as well. Targeting bluegill beds can be a sneaky good way to catch a big post-spawn bass this week.

A couple of hot spots to check out right now: the mouth of Honeycomb Creek for ledge bass, and the causeway bridges near Waterfront for both crappie and bass. Don’t sleep on the main lake humps just south of Goose Pond either.

If you’re heading out today, focus on football jigs and big crankbaits on the deeper structure and keep a topwater bait handy for any schooling activity. Live bait for crappie and bluegill is working great.

That’s the scoop for Lake Guntersville. Conditions are ripe, the fish are biting, and the next few weeks should be some of the best of the year. Good luck and tight lines!

  • Lake Guntersville's Bountiful Bass and Crappie Bite - May 24th, 2025 Update
    May 24 2025
Hey there, folks, this is Artificial Lure, and I'm here to give you the lowdown on fishing around Lake Guntersville, Alabama. Today, May 24th, 2025, we're seeing some great conditions for a day out on the water. The sunrise is at about 5:30 AM, and sunset is expected around 7:30 PM, giving us plenty of daylight to chase those bass.

Weather-wise, we've had some cooler temps lately, which has kept the water temperatures from rising too quickly. This has been a bit of a blessing in disguise, as it's kept the fish active and moving. The wind has been relatively calm, which is a welcome change from the gusts we've seen earlier in the spring.

As for fish activity, the post-spawn bass are starting to group up, and we're seeing some fantastic ledge bites. This is the time of year when the fish start transitioning to deeper structures, and Lake Guntersville's renowned ledges are where you want to be. The crappie fishing has also been impressive, with anglers catching solid numbers, especially around submerged structures and weed beds.

If you're looking to catch some bass, a football jig is your best bet right now. It seems like the bass are leaning towards bigger bites, so don't be afraid to throw something with a bit of heft. For crappie, minnows and small jigs are always reliable.

As for hot spots, I'd recommend checking out the areas around the main river ledges. These spots have been producing some quality fish, especially during the late morning and early afternoon. Another spot worth exploring is around the bluegill beds, as these can attract bass looking for an easy meal.

While we don't have a tidal report for Lake Guntersville, the water levels have been rising due to recent rainfall, which is bringing more water into the system. This can sometimes make the fish a bit more unpredictable, but it also flushes baitfish into areas where the bigger fish are waiting.

Overall, it's a great time to be out on Lake Guntersville, and with the right gear and knowledge, you're bound to catch some monsters. Tight lines, folks

  • Guntersville Fishing Report: Ledge Bite Turns On, Jigs Crush It as Summer Patterns Emerge
    May 23 2025
Good morning, anglers! This is Artificial Lure coming at you with today's Lake Guntersville fishing report for May 23rd, 2025.

Folks, let me tell you - we're smack in the middle of that transition period I've been talking about. Those cooler temps from earlier this month have finally given way to that Alabama heat we all know is coming. Water temps are climbing steadily after that rainfall we had, and the bass are responding exactly how we predicted.

The ledge bite has officially turned on! Those bass that were scattered a couple weeks ago have grouped up nicely on main lake structure. Electronics are your best friend right now - if you ain't looking down, you ain't finding the mother lodes. Most productive spots are sitting in that 15-22 foot range on channel swings.

Big news this week is the football jig pattern that's absolutely crushing it. That forecast I made about "jig season incoming" has materialized faster than expected. Texas-rigged 10" worms in plum and blue fleck are also getting attention, especially during midday hours. Early morning topwater is still producing around grass edges before the sun gets high.

Tournament anglers have been hammering solid 4-5 pound largemouth consistently, with several 6+ pound kickers reported during last weekend's events. The surprising story continues to be smallmouth - some guides reporting all-smallie bags approaching 20 pounds!

Crappie fishing remains surprisingly good despite the seasonal shift. Minnows under slip bobbers around bridge pilings are filling livewells for those targeting slabs.

For those looking for hot spots, the main river ledges between Goose Pond and South Sauty Creek are holding schools of post-spawners. The causeway has been particularly productive during current generation. Brown's Creek humps are also loading up with bass that have fully transitioned to summer patterns.

With sunrise at 5:37 AM and sunset not until 7:46 PM, we've got plenty of daylight to work with. Best bite windows have been early morning until about 9, then picking back up from 5 PM until dark.

Weather-wise, we're looking at steady conditions with highs around 86 today, light southerly winds at 5-8 mph - perfect for positioning on those offshore structures without fighting your trolling motor all day.

Remember folks, with Memorial Day weekend upon us, boat traffic is gonna ramp up considerably. Get your fishing in early before the pleasure boaters churn everything up.

This is Artificial Lure signing off - tight lines, full livewells, and I'll catch y'all back here next week!

  • Ledge Bite Sizzles on Lake Guntersville as Bass Gorge on Jigs and Crankbaits
    May 21 2025
Good morning, fellow anglers! This is Artificial Lure with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for Wednesday, May 21, 2025.

Folks, we're right in that sweet spot where the ledge bite is really starting to fire up. Water temps have stabilized after that cool spell we had earlier this month, and the bass are finally grouping up on those main lake ledges just like we predicted.

Today's weather is setting up perfect for a day on the water. We're looking at light winds out of the southeast at about 5-7 mph, with temperatures climbing to around 82 degrees by mid-afternoon. Sunrise was at 5:42 AM, and we'll have light till about 7:53 PM, giving y'all plenty of time to get after 'em.

The guides have been averaging 40-50 bass a day this past week, with several hawgs over 6 pounds coming to the boat[3]. What's really interesting is how the football jig bite has been dominating the ledges. Those fish are absolutely crushing 3/4-ounce brown/purple jigs dragged along the 12-18 foot contours[1].

If you're more of a reaction bait angler, deep-diving crankbaits in shad patterns have been productive, especially during periods of increased current. And don't overlook those topwater opportunities in the early morning - walking baits worked around shallow grass edges have been producing some explosive strikes.

The hot spots right now are definitely the ledges between Goose Pond and Siebold Creek. The North Sauty area has also been producing for those targeting those bigger schools. If you've got good electronics, spend some time scanning the river channel bends - that's where those bigger schools are setting up.

Crappie fishing remains solid for those targeting them. They've moved to deeper brush piles in 15-20 feet, and minnows suspended at 12-14 feet are your ticket to success[1].

The shad spawn is still going in places, especially around riprap and marina areas. Get there at first light with a white spinnerbait or chatterbait for some fast action[4].

One thing that's been a surprise this year is the smallmouth action. They've been showing up in tournament bags more than usual, so don't be shocked if you hook into some brown fish while ledge fishing[5].

Best tip I can give y'all today is to watch for that subtle afternoon current. TVA has been generating between 2 and 5 PM, and when that water starts moving, them ledge fish start chomping.

Until next time, keep your line tight and your hooks sharp. This is Artificial Lure signing off from the Big G - where the bass are always greener on the other side of the boat!

  • Lake Guntersville Fishing Report May 2025: Bass Transition to Ledges, Topwater Bites Still Strong
    May 19 2025
Good morning from Lake Guntersville! This is Artificial Lure with your fishing report for May 19, 2025.

We're looking at another beautiful day on the Big G with sunrise already behind us at 5:48 AM and sunset coming around 7:41 PM, giving us plenty of daylight hours to get on the water. Current weather patterns are continuing with those mild spring days, though we're starting to see temperatures creep up as we approach Memorial Day weekend. Water temps have risen to the upper 60s in most areas, and lake levels are holding steady after those recent rains.

Bass fishing is really picking up now as we're fully transitioning into ledge season. Most largemouth have completed their spawn, and we're seeing them group up along deeper structure. The tournament action this past weekend confirms what locals have been saying – the big fish are starting to show up in numbers. Just three days ago, Isaac Peavyhouse took home the Toyota Series win with an impressive three-day total of nearly 74 pounds.

Early morning topwater action remains strong, especially around Goose Pond and North Sauty Creek. Buzzbaits and hollow-body frogs are still producing those exciting surface strikes in the milfoil and lily pads. Once the sun gets higher, you'll want to switch to football jigs – which seem to be the hot ticket this year – or Texas-rigged creature baits worked along deeper grass edges.

For those looking to get ahead of the crowd, I'm seeing more consistent ledge bites developing each day. The bass are definitely preparing to group up in their summer haunts. Your electronics will be your best friend now – time to scan those deeper ledges around Seibold and the Waterfront area. Chrome or shad-colored lipless cranks and swimbaits are working well when you find those schools.

Crappie fishing continues to produce solid numbers for those targeting them, though most anglers have shifted focus to bass this time of year. Small minnows or jigs around brush piles in 12-15 feet of water are still bringing in good catches.

Hot spots this week include the ledges near the Highway 431 bridge, the channel swings near Goose Pond, and the deeper grass edges around South Sauty Creek. The evening bite has been particularly productive as fish move up to feed in the shallows as the sun gets lower.

With the full summer heat just around the corner, now's the time to put in some hours on the water before those scorching Alabama days really kick in. Remember, fish early, fish late, and keep an eye on your electronics.

Until next time, tight lines and big catches from Lake Guntersville!

  • Guntersville Fishing Report: Transition Time on the Big G, Football Jigs and Ledge Bite Heat Up
    May 18 2025
Good morning from Lake Guntersville—this is Artificial Lure with your fishing report for May 18, 2025.

The Big G is waking up to another beautiful day with mild May weather hanging on. Sunrise came early this morning at about 5:45, and we're expecting comfortable conditions for your day on the water.

Folks, we're in that sweet transition period right now. Bass fishing has been unpredictable but promising as we approach Memorial Day weekend. The cooler temperatures and rising water levels we saw earlier this week had the bass holding off a bit, but things are changing fast. The ledge bite is starting to heat up, with more fish preparing to group up on deep structure. Based on patterns we're seeing, expect consistent ledge bites to develop by late next week.

What's interesting this year is how many anglers are finding success with football jigs. That big bite everyone's waiting for is coming—and if history is any indicator, the next two weeks could be when it really turns on. If you haven't already, now's the time to dust off those jigs.

For those targeting bass right now, focus on moving baits in the afternoons. The afternoon bite from about 2pm until dark has shown significant improvement as backwaters warm up. Spinner baits, swim jigs, and chatter baits have been productive, along with rattle baits and stick baits. Remember, the fish aren't everywhere yet, but when you find a group, it can be non-stop action.

Crappie fishing continues to impress despite the seasonal shift toward bass. Those targeting crappie are still pulling in solid numbers, making it a great backup plan if the bass aren't cooperating.

Hot spots worth checking today include the main channel ledges near Goose Pond, where electronics are showing increased activity, and the backwaters around South Sauty Creek, where the afternoon bite has been particularly strong.

For those looking to maximize success, it's time to master your electronics. Reading that sonar properly can make all the difference between a good day and a great day this time of year.

The rest of May through June should continue to improve as bass move into the bream beds. The next few weeks will be as good as it gets on Guntersville.

That's the report for today, May 18th. This is Artificial Lure reminding you to stay safe, stay patient, and I'll see you on the water. Tight lines, y'all!

  • Guntersville Fishing Report: Postspawn Bass, Crappie Action, and Ledge Scouting Tips for May 2025
    May 17 2025
Good morning from Lake Guntersville—this is Artificial Lure with your fishing report for May 17, 2025. The Big G is waking up to a mild spring morning with sunrise just before 5:50 AM and sunset set for a little before 7:40 PM. We’ve got long daylight and cool nights, with the water temperature right in the mid-60s. Recent rains nudged the lake level up a bit, and there’s just a light stain in the creeks, but clarity is still solid. There’s no tidal swing here, just a steady water flow from the dam, so you can focus on the bite instead of chasing a tide clock.

The bass are wrapping up the last wave of the spawn. You’ll still find a few guarding nests in the shallows and grass, but most are sliding out deeper as we roll into classic ledge season. Morning action has been hot on topwater—buzzbaits and hollow-body frogs are drawing strikes around milfoil mats and lily pads. Goose Pond and the thick grass in North Sauty are two of my favorite stops for early blowups. As the sun climbs higher, those fish move out to the deeper weedlines and ledges. White swim jigs, Texas-rigged creature baits, and Senkos flipped along the edge are putting plenty of largemouth in the boat. Lipless crankbaits in shad or chrome patterns are producing along channel swings and drop-offs, especially down by Seibold and Waterfront.

If you’re a fan of jigs, this is your time. Football jigs are catching bigger bites out on the ledges and hard bottom spots, and the window is just opening up for that pattern to get red hot in the next week or two. Don’t forget to slow-roll those jigs or pair them with a big trailer for extra thump.

Crappie fishing is still strong if you target them. The bite is solid for anglers tight-lining jigs or minnows around brush piles in 8 to 12 feet of water. Most folks are filling limits of slabs, especially in the mid-lake and creek arms.

For bait, bring along hollow-body frogs, white or shad-colored swim jigs, lipless crankbaits, Senkos, and your favorite football jig in green pumpkin or black and blue. For crappie, smaller soft plastics and live minnows are working best.

Hot spots right now are Goose Pond, North Sauty grass mats, Seibold ledges, and the deep weedlines near Waterfront. Electronics will make all the difference on those ledges, so watch your graph and drop down when you see them grouped up.

The ledge bite is just about to hit its stride, and you can bet there’ll be more big catches coming in the days ahead. Good luck out there, and I’ll see you on the water!

  • Classic May on Lake Guntersville: Ledge Bite, Crappie, and Lure Recommendations
    May 16 2025
This is Artificial Lure with your Lake Guntersville fishing report for May 16, 2025. The mild May weather is hanging on, and conditions are primed for another strong week of fishing across the lake. Sunrise came at about 5:45 this morning, with sunset not till just after 7:40 tonight, giving you plenty of daylight to work both the early and late bites[2][3].

Water temps are holding steady in the mid-60s, perfect for bass and panfish. The ledge bite is really starting to pick up, with cooler temps and rising water pushing more bass to group up around the deeper structure. Football jigs are catching plenty of attention, especially as the bass move to those ledges. Look for this pattern to only get stronger in the next couple weeks as water temps creep up and more current picks up[1][4].

Crappie fishing is still holding its own, with solid numbers reported even as most folks are shifting focus to the bass bite. You can still find slabs around brushpiles and docks in 8 to 12 feet of water. The bite has been steady on minnows and small jigs[1][4].

For lure selection, it’s all about moving baits this time of year. Duckett spinnerbaits, swim jigs, chatterbaits, and rattle baits like the SPRO Aruka Shad are all getting bit. For those working the ledges, don’t overlook a football jig or a Missile Bait 48 stick bait. Keep moving until you find that concentration of fish, then settle in and work the area over thoroughly[1][5].

Reports from the last week include some nice catches of largemouth bass—anglers are landing 3 to 6 pound fish on a regular basis, with a few bigger ones mixed in. Crappie anglers are still putting limits together, though the bite is slowing a bit as water temps climb. Catfish are showing up in the channels for those soaking cut bait or chicken livers[3][5].

A couple of hot spots to check today: first, the deeper ledges along the main river channel near the Highway 69 bridge and BB Comer Bridge, where the football jig bite is starting to take off. Second, the grass edges on the north side of the lake around North Sauty and Preston Island, where bass are still coming out of the shallows and feeding heavy early and late[1][5].

There’s no tidal movement to worry about on Guntersville, but keep an eye out for any increased current from the dam releases, as that always fires up a bite—especially on the ledges[1][4].

If you’re headed out, bring those moving baits and jigs, and don’t be afraid to chase a crappie or two if the bass slow down midday. It’s shaping up to be a classic May on Guntersville—see y’all on the lake!
