    In this episode, we sit down with Roya Aghighi, Co-founder and CEO of Lite-1, a Vancouver-based biotech startup transforming the colour industry. We explore how traditional fabric dyes are harmful to both people and the planet, and how her team is harnessing microorganisms that naturally produce pigments to grow safe, sustainable colours for textiles. Roya also shares the challenges and breakthroughs in scaling this technology, the role of biodesign in sustainable manufacturing, and her journey leading a company committed to environmental stewardship.     She has two Industrial Design degrees from IUST & Emily Carr & research collaborations with UBC, and lead researcher at TU Delft Netherlands. Design and science experience in Canada & Europe gives her a solid foundation in scientific methodologies & problem-solving. Her experience leading material development projects in brands, including Lululemon, gives her a deep understanding of innovative material implementation into existing industry processes. Her interdisciplinary mindset enables her to identify opportunities others may overlook, leading to breakthrough insights & advancements. Roya’s journey began with a passion for changing the world through design thinking and offering solutions to immediate problems of the time; however, her insatiable curiosity and desire to explore the world beyond design led her to embark on a remarkable scientific path.

    As a United Church minister and the VP of ESG for Tru Earth, one of Canada’s fastest-growing companies, Anita’s work and life are characterized by social justice, collaboration, and leaving the planet better than she found it. At Tru Earth, a Certified B Corp global household cleaning product company, Anita focuses on disrupting the CPG industry, eliminating household single use plastics, battling microplastics and donating earth-friendly products to organizations in need. Tru Earth has prevented 160 million plastic containers from being created and has donated 30 million of its environmentally friendly laundry detergent strips in just four years. Since September 2022, Anita has served on the Board of Directors of HOPE International Development Agency in Canada, where she brings her expertise in business and sustainability to support HOPE 's mission of empowering communities to overcome poverty and reach their full potential.

    In our Season Two opener, we spotlight how the Vancouver Aquarium is creating more inclusive spaces for visitors—starting with their Neurodivergent Days. We learn how they're reimagining the aquarium experience to be more welcoming, accessible, and calming for neurodivergent individuals.

    We also dive into the incredible work of the Marine Mammal Rescue Centre, where conservation meets compassion through the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured marine animals. It’s a powerful conversation about empathy, accessibility, and protecting ocean life—on land and at sea.

    Originally from Quebec, Linda is the Manager of Community Outreach at the Vancouver Aquarium, Her focus is making the facility truly inclusive. Her journey began as Manager of Visitor Experience & Admissions for six years, and after helping reopen the Aquarium post-COVID, she transitioned into her current role. One of her proudest achievements is developing our Sensory Friendly Hours program, ensuring a welcoming space for all. With a background in tourism and aviation, she thrives on creating meaningful experiences. Married with no children, she is blessed with 25 wonderful "nibblings" who bring joy to her life.
