About this listen

Siskind's steamy second chance romance will grab you by the heart and leave you with one hell of a book hangover!

August Cruz is the only man I've ever loved.

He's the one who got away.

He's the one I totally screwed over.

Now he's standing on my doorstep, nine years later, but he's not the only thing that turns up. My mother's lost diary is in my hands, and it might lead me to my father. A possibility I wished for one year ago, at my last birthday.

I have 36 hours to fulfill that wish.

I have 36 hours to drag August on a wild scavenger hunt.

I have 36 hours to protect my heart before I lose him again . . . because there's something he's not telling me.

Contains mature themes.

Countdown to happiness!

First, I have to say, I just love Kelly Siskind. Her books are so easy to relate to, her stories believable, her characters well developed and her story lines full of true to life experiences along with a touch of humor. Licks is the third in the One Wild Wish trilogy and is an amazing listen. Gwen with her two friends made a wish on her 27th birthday to find her birth father. Now so close to her 28th, will she find out what she seeks? And will this journey be life changing in a good way? August, Gwen's best friend and high school crush has come home to give Gwen some news that is sure to ruin his chance of ever being her man. But will he have the guts to give it to her? These two embark on a journey that is full of passion and surprises. Every corner turned leads to the unexpected, as Gwen uncovers her past with the man from her past. And to make it even better, we get help and support from her friends Owen, Ainsley, Rachel and Jimmy! This story, full of warm feelings of compassion, and love is truly amazing.

Throw in narration by Aaron Shedlock and Samantha Cook, and the novel is incredible. Shedlock gives voice to August with a need and desperation as he helps the one woman that he loves. His voice is August. Cook exudes the Hope and despair that Gwen feels and you can feel her change as the story progresses. These two bring you into the story and let you live it as it is read to you.

Unexpected

Intriguing plot with unexpected turns. Funny & sad but in a good way. Not soul crushing. 😉

My favorite of the three books

I really liked this series. It was a bit cheesy and predictable at times but I still really enjoyed all 3 books. The addition of the mystery element to this was fun and I would definitely recommend. If you are here for the spice, I'd sat it's a 4/10. It was a little to tame for my taste ;)

My favorite of the 3

I liked the mystery of finding her father. How they both loved each other for so long. They grew so much since they last saw each other but were still each other’s person.

Recipe on how to destroy relationships! Spoilers!

I liked this story with a few reservations. I think the main message of the story was the lack of communication...between August and Gwen which began their problems, between Gwen's mother and Gwen and between August's brother and Gwen. But I suppose the resulting angst is what makes the story.

SPOILERS AHEAD:
One of my reservations was the continual thread throughout the story that the failure of the MC's relationship was Gwen's fault. I didn't feel that was true at all. In explanation, here comes the necessary spoilers. August is a fixer. I am married to one. So I understand that sometimes you just need that person to listen but understand that it is up to you to decide on how to fix your problems. Instead he made her feel like talking to him about her problems MADE her a problem to him. In response, Gwen began to shut August out their senior year. At this point, August could have talked to Gwen about how he felt about her. Instead, he began to date HER BEST FRIEND and Gwen had a limited relationship with another guy. So, Gwen becomes upset when a year later when she sees on social network that August has given her ex best friend a promise ring on Gwen's birthday. At this point, I don't think August had any right to object to who she slept with after a few too many birthday drinks (she was a free agent) even if it was his twin brother. The twin brother, however, knew how August felt about Gwen but apparently thought he was in love with Gwen as well. This has all resulted from poor communication on everyone's part but I didn't like how Gwen took more of the blame than was her share. I have noticed that women tend to do that. In addition, I have noticed how other women and women writers are so hard on women in their reviews and in their stories. I just don't get that. Where is our sisterhood? We share many of the same problems!

My other reservation was August withholding important info about her father when he knew how important that info was to Gwen. An immediate email would have made more sense. Then, to lie by omission by not telling her after they had reconnected that he had withheld the info seemed intentionally wrong. I didn't buy the rationale for his deceit. He once again took the decision out of her hands.

In conclusion I thought the narrators did a good job. The story was good because it was redeemed by it's HEA. I look forward to reading more of this author's works in the future.
