About this listen

From The New York Times best-selling author of the smash hit One Second After series comes 48 Hours, a nail-biting and prescient thriller about a solar storm with the power to destroy the world's electrical infrastructure.

In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off.

Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

William R. Forstchen is at his best in 48 Hours, a tale of the resilience of American citizens when faced with a crisis.

very black and white

the novel's characters were either good or bad. Almost immediately after meeting a character you know which category the person falls into.

Really enjoyed! Finished in 2 days!

I almost didn't listen to this because of some of the bad reviews. Very glad I did. Yes , there were a few times some information was over explained but I'm a lover of learning new things so this was acceptable to me. If you like EOTW stories then this one is well worth listening to. I've listened to Bronson Pinchot many times and find him very articulate and easy to listen too. Not sure why some said he wasn't up to par with this book but I loved his reading!

Overall, two thumbs up!

Great, follow up.

Even though it has a different story line. It again makes one think and question their morals. Great Author!

Yet another great book!

One Second After was an eye opening novel. This is better structured and better researched and I love it! So many Novels dealing with EMP don’t even mention a thing about nuke power plants going wild but this one did...at least mentioned it for sure lol this is the best book of the author and I can wait to get another book by him!

48 Hours

Plot. Scientists discover that our sun has gone berserk. A CME, followed by a CPE, is going to cause an ELE. Lots of acronyms, huh. Well, the one that is the scariest is ELE - Extinction Level Event. These explosions from the sun are heading for earth and will cause sufficient radiation to end all life. A thoughtful, sincere president, a Goddard scientist, a few military men work desperately through 48 Hours to secure the future of humanity. One group determines that the future is our children. Selfish, greedy politicians fight for their own future. The battle for the human race is at stake.

Narration is fine, the story a bit repetitive in areas.

48 Hours is written by William R. Forstchen, narrated by Bronson Pinchot, released in January 2019 by Blackstone Audio, and just over eleven hours of listening.

Recommended for the apocalypse fans that will have fun picking apart preparations.

A side never told

I could not stop listening to the audible book from the time I started till it was over well written and the narrator brought you into the store and the characters came to life and you lived each and ever minute hour and day as the story was told. The reason for the subject A side never told is due in all the eBook and audibles you read or listen to a story of people not knowing or partially knowing what is happening this is a story of a president who in fighting with a member of his cabinet and really ready to make the hard chooses he has to make from running and hiding, or sitting, listen to the scientist and finally making a decision the let the people know and stand with them when the end comes. And then a man and wife who stands up to the governor and the military to save the children and a few teachers, doctors and some families but in the end decide to not to go into the shelter and stay outside and what the end come so they could be with the son and daughter families who lived out of state and could not be reached. The main story line is people who are willing to die for the betterment of others even if they have to die and how good can overcome greed and a corrupt local government.
Now what would happen if there was a powerful enough solar flair that could wipe mankind out how would you react to it and what would you do to save yourself. your family and those who could not help themselves would you turn your back on them or would you fight to save them.
The main story here is about a person morals and judgment!
I do highly recommend the audible and to be up front be ready for a ride and see if you would do as the main character did give your life to save others.
