Publisher's summary

Deep in the Kentucky hills, three women have been found brutalized and murdered.
But the folks in Night Holler have their own ways and their own laws.
And they’re not talking…

Led to an isolated Appalachian Mountain town by a trail of disturbing murders, FBI special agent Violet Rainwater’s determined to catch a serial killer with a twisted agenda. With locals refusing to reveal their secrets, Violet’s only ally is Detective John Orlando. But even John has an ulterior motive—he’s convinced this case is connected to his wife’s murder.

As they dig deeper, Violet uncovers a link to her own unresolved past. For years she’s worked the cold case of her mother’s abduction, which had led to her birth. The need to look into the eyes of the sinful man who fathered her consumes Violet. Until she can, she’ll never have peace. Because she’s terrified she might be exactly like him.

In this chilling novel, when the present collides with Violet’s mysterious past and John’s tragic loss, they must unravel the warped, sinuous connections before the killer strikes again. But solving the case might not be nearly as terrifying as the possibility that Violet’s finally found her roots…

Great characters

I enjoyed this story a lot. It had some twists which were a little bit unsatisfying because some of the characters involved in the twist were not well fleshed out. The story intentionally misleads you. Overall and enjoyable read.

Great easy listening!

Religious undertones that you don't often see anymore. I think added to the story. It was thought provoking when you considered the characters feeling stuck in this backward way of living and how it affected each character. It went from illegal activities to the sweet nature of the town folk.

Hard to stop listening, sad that I finished it

From beginning to end this book enthralls you! Great murder mystery with the right dosage of God. This is the second book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I’m not disappointed. I only have two regrets. 1) I hated for it to end 2) I need one about Ty!

Clean and suspenseful

This is my kind of book! So many twists and turns. I love the suspense and the narration tied it all together perfectly!

Good story

I liked it enough but if the main character was likable, would have enjoyed it more. Definitely worth listening though.

Good, complex, religious undertone.

Took a few chapters for me to really get into the swing of the book. Fairly lengthy cast of charters. Religious undertone, but didn’t bother me, but in a see how it would bother others.
Would recommend!

Forced religion

Could have been great without all the Christian undertones. Was a little too holier that thou

Unexpected ending.

I enjoyed the different characters, the main character, and the Wade story developed and kept you looking forward to read on your story to find out the end and who done it

Overly religious

I thought the mention of god was to help the readers understand the motive and the town until the last handful of chapters, where it was mentioned in every other sentence. The main character’s struggle with what she believed was unnecessary and took away from the story. I also don’t remember seeing anywhere in the description that this would be a central topic.
