Publisher's summary

The light has ruled for a thousand years. Now it ends.

Max's coworkers treat him like hot garbage, and his manager is a superficial dolt. Unfortunately for him, his fate was sealed before he was even born, and it's way worse than working part-time in a coffee shop.

Confronted out of the blue by a floating demonic eye, Max doesn't take it seriously, because who would? So when the flesh is ripped from his bones and he's hurled, screaming, into a fantastic and terrifying new world, he's a little surprised. When he learns his task is to free the daughter of the god of death who's been chained and tortured for centuries, he is stunned.

Max had better figure things out, and fast. As an unwelcome undead in a world oppressed by the corrupt tyranny of light, there are whole orders pledged to eradicate his kind. To even come close to completing his quest, Max will need cunning, determination, and a whole lot more than one measly hit point.

Bone Knight is a fully complete, best-selling humorous progression/litRPG series inspired by old-school JRPG games fused with a generous helping of dark fantasy like The Witcher, The Sandman, and Full-Metal Alchemist. In this portal fantasy adventure, a part-time barista must navigate a perilous world as a pathetically weak skeleton. Fighting through a vicious penalty to his stats, Max will have to think his way around his many, many problems and find ways to grow against all odds.

Amazing Story! Well executed!

Ignore the negative reviews and dive into a fantastic listen. The first few chapters are a bit whine and cringe to build the stage for the characters but it all pays off as the story progresses more. Looking forward to the next listen on audible. Hope it arrives soon.

Is the example of how narrators affect the story

This is an example of how a narrator affects the story well this narrator is good this just was not the right fit for him this is a story that will shows great promise but because of the narrator It just took the listening experience and a direction that made me not like the story as much and I couldn't get into it because of the narrator and the way he was doing this job this is just something Whewell the author was amazing Just couldn't get into it because This was just the wrong mirror Unfortunately I don't think I'll be continuing to listen to this series because of that which is unfortunate because I know this Is author is really good

Great book

The author/ narrator did a great job with this book. When the MC made snarky remarks, it reminded me of the way I play my pen and paper games. This book is better than I expected, seeing the few low reviews. The author did a great job narrating the book. I was surprised, other authors that do this really don’t pull it off well. Can’t wait for the next one!

Captivating LitRPG Fantasy Adventure

This was my first experience with Tim Paulson's work, and I was very entertained. Although I don't play digital games, I enjoyed the format of this story. Max was drawn into a new world filled with terrifying creatures and given the task of freeing the daughter of the god of death. The worldbuilding was fascinating. I liked the creatures and the fight scenes. I was often amused by the dialogue and the unique circumstances that Max experienced. Tim Paulson's narration was great, and his performance kept my attention. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.

A humor and tension filled LitRPG fantasy!

Tim Paulson's "A Grim Demise and Even Worse Resurrection," a LitRPG fantasy adventure narrated by the author himself, seamlessly weaves humor and tension. Paulson's writing is as engaging as his narration, creating a delightful experience for fans of dark fantasy and old-school JRPG games. This fully complete Bone Knight series is a must-read, offering a unique journey where a part-time barista tackles a perilous world as a weak skeleton with wit and determination.

Back From the grave

This is why I love the Litrpg genre. Can take and inspire you to learn and play in different ways inspired by them.after listening I can't wait to see how our undead protagonist gets himself out of his next problem and the wacky adventure he will get into

Unique MC

Nothing beats finding a unique MC and story. I found it quite enjoyable and will look forward to listening to the next book.

I had very few problems with the story and nothing too major. I do feel the story would have been better if there had been more Showing than Telling in the storytelling as I would have liked to see the MC's process for doing as he did. The other thing that caught my attention was the notifications after the paladin fight. It was a little annoying to hear two different ways of gaining levels. I would ask that it be limited to 2-3 of one kind so as not to feel like there was just a paragraph of level up notifications

promising premise failed by MC

The premise is interesting; extreme potential, limited by an initial almost insurmountable challenge. However, the MC makes me root for someone else, anyone else. Everytime the surrounding characters tried to interact with the MC he would go out of his way to belligerently insult or ridicule them.
