Publisher's summary

Annie is morbidly obese, lonely and hopeful. Moving into her new home alone, she describes her increasingly bizarre attempts to ingratiate herself with her new neighbours, learn from past mistakes and achieve a "certain kind of intimacy" with the boy next door. As Annie struggles to repress a murky history of violence and sexual mishaps, she realizes her past is never too far behind her....

painful to finish

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I'm sorry but I must write a review for this book. It started good but as it progressed, it was just awful. I do not recommend this book.

Remember "Play Misty For Me"?

Who knew, that within the pages and pages of audible selections there could be this perfect gem of a psychological portrait? Jenn Ashworth has created a riveting character whose mind has gone wrong somehow, but not quite "wrong" enough to require psychiatric intervention, either self-sought or mandated by authorities. The author brilliantly narrates the delicately distorted nuances in her character's perceptions, as the antics of Annie Fairhurst reach their final boundary. Annie's ultimate fate, while expected, is none the less compelling. The complete picture, with all its cringe-worthy moments, evokes shades of the Clint Eastwood movie where a radio DJ is systematically harassed by a fan. Five stars all around!
