About this listen

The afterlife isn't always what you think....

A loving father of three children, Albert lived a life of few regrets. He served his country far from home. He outlived his soul mate. He died alone.

However, his assumptions about a peaceful eternity, reunited with his wife, are thrown out the window when a meddling god digs his fingers into Albert's afterlife.

The positive? He will have a chance to see his wife again.

The negative? He has to survive the dangers of the legendary World Tree for the next 300 years. He's been reincarnated into a world full of magical evolutions, monstrous deer, sassy 10-year-old elves, and untold hidden dangers. It won't be easy, but if life has taught Albert anything it's this: If something is worth having, it's worth fighting for. And he intends to fight.

I love this story.

I love the twist on the location for the setting. I can't for the sequel.

Entertaining

I enjoyed this book; however, I would like to point out a few factors that others might not enjoy.

Firstly, the MC is over-powered. I know this is a major turn off for some people so this is your disclaimer.
Secondly, the MCs morality is questionable. If you're looking for a book about a wholesome hero, look elsewhere. The MC is pragmatic and willing to kill and leave others to die to further his own agenda, but not sadistic. Some would call this an anti-hero but that is a loaded label since definitions vary.
Lastly, some dark stuff happens in this book that may offend delicate sensibilities, such as extreme violence and a chapter where the MC encounters sex-traffickers.

If those aspects don't turn you off to the book I highly recommend it. The world is vibrant and the characters are fun. The storyline is simple, get mega-powerful and save my wife. If that sounds good to you, enjoy.

Where did this come from all of a sudden?

Was utterly surprised with this one. Great story, fun, and solid narration. Totally worth a credit. Looking forward to book 2!

My 3 year old said she ate five miles of food!

The story was enjoyable. But the author has no sense of scale or measurements; like how many feet are in a mile? Ask the kraken.

For instance, the MC is fighting “Narg the destroyer”, a kobold who summons a stone gorilla. The gorilla is supposed to be 3000 feet tall! Thousand! Yet, with Narg sitting on its shoulders, he and the MC continue to talk. The Empire State Building is less then half that height. Now would you (from the street) be able to see the facial expressions and talk with someone on top of that building?

Distance, weight, height, volume, speed, food consumption, everything is inconsistent and crazy. I wish the author had just said “big” or “really really big!”

Can't wait for more

I remember reading this stopping somewhere in the range of 20 chapters of where this leaves off on royalroadl, and I have to say, the audio version has only made it better. I just wish the Male voice actor would do the men and the female the women and it wouldn't change based on POV.

Conflicted...

First of all let me say the story was well written and I enjoyed the journey. It also was pretty funny.
However I am conflicted because there were a few details that the author put in that made some of the MC's Major choices stupid, and would have only been understandable if he were a teenager instead of an old man. I also think that those details were put in simply to 'raise the stakes'. I'm not sure how to describe it without actually doing any spoilers so I will make an example that happens basically at the very beginning, so it shouldn't be a spoiler if it was obviously the choice that was made.

In case you don't want any chance of spoilers stop here
******************************************************************
He is told that if he transmigrates he won't be able to have an afterlife or anything like that, which means if he'd think about it he would just stay dead because when his wife dies she would come right back to him, I mean he died so no big deal, especially since his wife died already too. But because of this choice it basically means he will only be with his wife in this next life for the short time they are both alive. It just seems like a waste. This also means that another choice that he deliberates on (but I don't think he has decided yet) is going in the same direction but even more strongly, and that one I feel that making it would make his wife disgusted with him, considering how he's described her, yet unless he is going to spend his life lying to her (lying MCs are actually the MCs I hate most, being weak willed or even an ass is fine as long as you are honest about it), I would think that he would try to act in a way to make her happy with him.

Surprisingly good.

Based on the summary I was expecting this to be more bog standard litrpg. The preview didn't help. The only thing that brought me in was the narrator. He's done several of my favorite books and I figured I'd give him a chance to impress

I'm glad I did. Not only is this book fairly well written, at least in my opinion, but that combination with the way Travis can fully bring out a humorous situation to its peak makes this one of my favorite books of the year.

It's not perfect, but it kept me entertained most of the way through. Can't ask for much more than that. Though I do wish he had a few more stages and made this book a few hours longer. He goes from garden snake, to deadly hunter far too quickly. I also love how he already self identifies as a snake within the first hour. Abandons his humanity in a hurry. But I suspect that's more because of the body he inhabits.
