About this listen
Long ago, an otherworldly creature made the Earth almost uninhabitable and nearly consumed all of mankind. Now angels protect, and rule over, New Eden—Earth’s last remaining city. By angelic decree, and scripture akin to propaganda, all redheads are enslaved. Alizard is the stubborn daughter of the two most powerful families in the city. She expects to inherit a position of great leadership until the day her hair turns red.
A World Without Trees tells a story of ultimate sacrifice amidst a harsh, violent, landscape. Alizard’s journey within and without New Eden will force her to confront childhood trauma in the aftermath of a family torn apart. All the while, the return of the world-eating creature nears.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Story
It’s 1984, and the invisible mists are falling, mists that cause people to slip into dreamless slumber—sleeps from which most, but not all, awaken. Those who do wake live in fear of the next mist, and the next, each a little longer and more dangerous than the last. Alternating between the perspectives of a kleptomaniac waitress named Cora and her twelve-year-old friend Glass, Sleepaway depicts a small-town America turned alarming. This is a place where loved ones are lost to a state between life and death; where denial, delusion, and desperation take hold of those remaining.

A New & Clever Dystopian Tale
If you like epic dystopian tales this book is for you! Coming across this book before my long drive was extremely lucky. "A World Without Trees' was captivating even with its somber tone touching deeply on feeling as well as deeper parts of the intellect. The ending completely caught me by surprise and makes me want to listen to the book again with that in mind. The female protagonist was quite the firecracker, which I enjoy in a book these days. The narrator excelled in differentiating the various characters, giving each one a distinct voice while maintaining an overall sense of oppression that hangs over the entire narrative.

I couldn’t stop listening to A World Without Trees by Joseph Blackhurst! From start to finish, it kept me hooked. The story is all about a character (Alizard) fighting through oppression and figuring out who she really is. It was so engaging, and I was always eagerly anticipating what would happen next.
Chloé Godard did an amazing job narrating. She brought the characters to life, especially Theox, and I really loved how she voiced Alizard, and she made me really hate Gabriel. If you’re looking for an audiobook that’s both fun and thought-provoking, you definitely need to check this one out.
