Publisher's summary

Al Clark is going home.

His wife of 32 years has passed away, and the kids have moved on. There is no longer a reason to stay in the village they founded. After an absence of 74 years, he returns to an Earth he does not recognize in search of his past. Amnesia has robbed him of the first 42 years of his life, which he hopes to recover. It was supposed to be an easy trip, where he would sleep through the long journey and be awakened upon arrival.

That is not the way it works out.

An easy light sci-fi read.

Al Clark Earth book 4.
I like the idea of the book. A man machine who has kept his humanity. Light and upbeat with a can do attitude.
The complete series is also very upbeat, and makes a great read.
Narration is good. Clear and concise.

Aliens are better than dinosaurs

I think that this is the best story in the series. No more dinosaurs, but I think the Aliens are more intriguing. And Al gets to come to Earth, As usual, he gets to save the day. But more importantly for this series, his personal mystery is finally solved.
I hope this doesn’t mean the end of the series.
And finally, I think John Meyer has become a smoother writer and better story teller as the series has progressed.

Al to the Rescue Once Again

'Earth' is the fourth book in Jonathan G Meyer's 'Al Clark' series. I believe someone could listen to it on its own, but there is a lot of background in the other 3 books. They're great as well and worth the read/listen.

A few semi-vague spoilers ahead.

After his wife's death, Al makes the decision to leave Thera and travel to Earth in an attempt to figure out what came before his amnesia on the Excalibur. During the six-month journey, the ship he's travelling on, the Bluebird, encounters a disabled alien colony ship also bound for Earth. Al and the crew assist the people in colonizing on Earth.

I enjoy Meyer's characterization of Al. He doesn't get all dramatic when presented with a problem. He works out a solution and carries it out with aplomb. I get amused every time he thinks to himself, 'I need to keep my enhanced nature a secret.' And then everyone proceeds to find out. It makes me chuckle each time it happens. I've come to like him more and more as the series continues. He's an Everyman, despite his enhancements. That's what I like best about him. I look forward to listening to more of Al's wonderful travels from this author.

The book includes a bit of space action, aliens being threatened by the natives and a smidge of the two cultures learning to live together. If there's any gripe about the story, I would like to see more of the humans and aliens surviving in their given environment.

John McLoughlin does a great job narrating. I like the tone he uses to tell the story.
