About this listen

Thriller Award Winner, Best Young Adult Novel, 2014

"You have to kill him." Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain. Only Em can complete the final instruction. She's tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present - imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called "the doctor" while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend, James, since they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America's most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James's life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina's hopes for their future. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was. Em and Marina are in a race against time that only one of them can win. All Our Yesterdays is a wrenching, brilliantly plotted story of fierce love, unthinkable sacrifice, and the infinite implications of our every choice.

Frustrating heroine

Not sure why but it seems like books with adolescent women as characters always have to make them seem whiny and ridiculous. I found the girl character almost unbearable at times, it reminded me of Bella from Twilight.

Pardon me...do you have the correct time?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would, with the rather large caveat that that person would need to be into a thriller/time travel/mystery offering, and not everyhone is.

If you’ve listened to books by Cristin Terrill before, how does this one compare?

No I have not. This was my first introduction to this author, and it was a moderately good first taste. That said, there is a definite need for a more aggressive editing process. There is some awkward dialogue, scene setting, and confusing( at least to me ) movement between the various charcters.

On balance, however, damn fine.

Which character – as performed by Meredith Mitchell – was your favorite?

No one stood out, but most of them were strong. The main 3 characters, both versions, were well crafted.

Was All Our Yesterdays worth the listening time?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

As previously noted, it's more than abit messy, with some confusing story mixing in the final 3rd. That said, this is a fascinating story, and worth the credit.

Great adventure - couldn't put it down!

Would you listen to All Our Yesterdays again? Why?

I think I will listen to All Our Yesterdays again because it was such a fun adventure from the moment all the way to the end. I really connected with the characters and I enjoyed how the author effortlessly switched back and forth between the characters in the present and the characters in the past. Just the right mixture of action, adventure, drama, romance, suspense, sci-fi and love.

What other book might you compare All Our Yesterdays to and why?

There really isn't anther time travel novel that has captured my attention and interest the way this novel has. I did enjoy listening to this book as much as I did Divergent.

What about Meredith Mitchell’s performance did you like?

She did a nice job of reading. Her voice is easy to listen too.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed the ending. It wasn't a completely happy ending, but it wasn't a sad depressing ending. It is what had to happen, with a sprinkle of hope mixed in.

Any additional comments?

I hope this author writes another book - soon!

Might be of interest if you are a 13 yo girl

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, not if I wanted to keep them as a friend.

What could Cristin Terrill have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Insisted that it be listed as a novel for 'young adults' and not as a mystery or adventure novel.

What about Meredith Mitchell’s performance did you like?

It didn't put me to sleep.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I wouldn't even rent the dvd

Any additional comments?

It only cost me $4.99 so I don't feel entirely ripped off.

Best narration ever

The narrator did such a good job with the story even though things jump back and forth, I was never confused. The author did a good job drawing contrast between the two girls. Recommended.

Probably a pretty good YA book

I am a big fan of time travel books and mysteries so I was intrigued by the publisher's summaries and the reviews, but I couldn't take more than 90 minutes of it. This is clearly a Young Adult dystopian book, but that wasn't obvious in any of the descriptions. After dwelling for pages and pages how a geeky 15 year old boy had become a "hot" 17 year old genius I realized I had stumbled into the wrong section. I'm sure it a fine specimen in the genre, but not for me.

Ok But....

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Yes, there are too many "scenes" that are similar in nature.

If you’ve listened to books by Cristin Terrill before, how does this one compare?

This is the first

What three words best describe Meredith Mitchell’s performance?

Calm, changeable, ?

Was All Our Yesterdays worth the listening time?

No, not for me.

Any additional comments?

Don't think I would listen to time travel books again. This one was too confusing with several scenes that were similar and seemed repetitious to me. This is a Sci-Fi book not a mystery. If you are into Sci-Fi then go for it. Just wasn't for me.

Great little book!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes and I have, it is entertaining, keeps you interested, I had a hard time when I had others in the car and couldn't listen to the story... :)

What did you like best about this story?

That it tells the story from both angles. You'll see... ;)

What does Meredith Mitchell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is a great reader, not sure that you get anything MORE out of it, but if I didn't have audiobooks, I wouldn't "read" at all. :)

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, it was non-stop. not necessarily action, but the way the story is revealed keeps you listening.

Any additional comments?

I bought this on a whim as one of the audible daily deals, and I am very glad I did. It is a worthy story even at full price.

Started good, but limited plot dragged on

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The plot line centered around 1 simple thing and 2/3rds of the book was buildup to it, failing, buildup again, fail etc. It just became predictable and at some point it stops building suspense and changes to just wanting the book to end.

If you’ve listened to books by Cristin Terrill before, how does this one compare?

No

Have you listened to any of Meredith Mitchell’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No,but I thought her performance was average-above average.

Do you think All Our Yesterdays needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Probably difficult to tie in.
