About this listen

Brilliant, quirky twenty-three-year-old China Mack is totally satisfied with her carefully ordered, data-driven life. A computer prodigy who landed a coveted programming job at the cutting-edge tech company Cysnet before even graduating from MIT, China is happiest when following her routine: shower before coffee, pizza only on Mondays, bedtime at ten thirty sharp.

But then things start to get a little...unpredictable.

First Jackson Cooper - Cysnet's rich, gorgeous, genius CEO - assigns China to a dangerous and highly classified project for a government defense contractor. Her sixteen-year-old runaway niece suddenly arrives in town, begging to move in with China. And then there's her sexy but oddly unsettling new neighbor, Clark...

Quickly the Cysnet assignment becomes disconcerting - and then downright scary - as key staffers turn up dead. China suspects she's being followed and isn't sure whom she can trust. For the first time ever, she'll have to follow her instincts, rather than logic, if she's going to survive.

could become my next favorite series

storyline could have been more interspersed with nerd speak and tech and less romance/sex which would have added more credibility to the burgeoning main character. I was a little disappointed that all the main characters were "hotties" particularly the men. I think the female lead has potential to become a favorite if the author continues to flesh out her personality and idiosyncrasies which will add layers to her that would make reading sequels worth it.9

Not for me

disappointed in the book. Not that much of a mystery and too way to long to get to the mystery part. the narrator definitely neefs help.

Good book overall.

As a genuine geek chick, I found the main character a little too Sheldon, but I enjoyed the geek culture references and the IT jargon delightfully realistic for a change.

Excellent

I admit to being hard to please when it comes to audiobooks. I like natural sounding narration. I want a valiant attempt to bring the character to life in a manner that's true to any character descriptions. I like the main characters to have distinct voices. This is especially important with this book, because it's part of a series in which we will continue to see/hear Grandma, Mia, Jackson, Clark, and of course, China Mack.

Arielle DeLisle nails it. There was no period of adjustment as I reconciled the character voices I'd "heard" when I read the book, and that of Ms. DeLisle's performance. Jackson's voice wasn't as I imagined it, but her version fit well with the character, and in less than a minute, her version became Jackson in my head. Her China Mack is all the wonderful, witty, quirky, feisty, and sometimes insecure that China should be. It was a joy to hear.

The book itself is suspenseful and well crafted. It is a strong beginning to a series that continues to go in surprising directions. I don't repeat blurbs, and I'm trying to avoid spoilers--China would resent that. But China is in my top five of characters I'd want to have as a BFF, if only she were real. The book has no shortage of my favorite things: unrealistic shower shenanigans, alpha males carrying the otherwise capable female up stairs and through the rain, weapon stashes or military gear normally reserved for small countries, at least one obscenely rich alpha male (this series skews heavily towards alpha everyone--even the 16 year old is in complete control of her life more often than not), lies made for the greater good or to protect a character (which nonetheless must be forgiven), female characters worth saving, and who sometimes do the saving. I highly recommend both print/eBook and audio of this book in particular, and the series as a whole.

Not that good...

I felt like the story was all over the place and not very interesting. Would not recommend.

Pretty much the same as the first book

Not too much action and it was more of the same from the first book. Gives a little more information on what is actually happening though. Next book is way better.

Follow Me

What did you love best about Follow Me?

Follow Me is a wonderful book with a refreshing heroine!

China Mack, with a last name no one can pronounce is smart. And I mean genius smart.
She has a great job, car, and house. She is a commuter geek, loves reading romance novels and always, always kills The Doctor (AKA her per goldfish).

China has a career, she is independent and capable.

What she lacks are the normal social manners and she also suffers from OCD.

All of those make Chi (as her niece calls her, a delightful character).

Being a child genius, China graduated early and got a top paying position at a firm (Cysnet) founded and run by Jackson Cooper.

China had a crush on Jackson for years but she never acted on it.

When Jackson asks China to lead a special project things start getting interesting…

Follow Me is a fast paced book.

It’s a smart book that entertains you and makes you think about the consequences of developing and using certain technology .

You root for China and want her to triumph both professionally and personally.

You don’t know who to trust: Jackson? Or China's mysterious new neighbor Clark?
The book touches on the sexism women still face in the tech world, their need to constantly prove themselves as capable and smart as their male counterparts.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

China with her niece! All where wonderfully written.
