Publisher's summary

In 1948, 21-year-old Shannon Lyons immigrated to America, and was hired as a waitress at The Crater Lake National Park Lodge in Oregon. That same summer, an Italian bus boy, Johnny Marino, is returning for his third summer. It takes some time for Johnny to work up the nerve to ask the beautiful new waitress out on a date.

A few dates, hikes, and picnics later, the two are celebrating Shannon's birthday and take a sunset drive to see Phantom Ship Island. Everyone has one summer in their life that stands out above the rest. For Johnny and Shannon, the summer of 1948 was one of those summers.

Quick Easy Listen

Would you listen to Always Kiss Me Goodbye again? Why?

A quick easy listen Audiobook
This story is set just after world war two and is about Shannon, a Scottish immigrant that takes a summer job waitressing in a holiday lodge in Oregon. USA. While there she meets Johnny, an Italian immigrant and romance ensues, which of course, has its ups and downs. The performance and story are both good and will keep you listening to find out whether the couple will go their separate ways at the end of the summer.
Well worth a listen.

A sweet listen set in the 1940's Oregon

Always Kiss Me Goodbye is a sweet, short listen coming in at just under two hours. This is the story of Shannon, who has recently traveled to the US from Scotland to work as a waitress at the Crater Lake National Park lodge, and Johnny, a nice Italian boy from New York, who is coming back for his third season of work there.

Alice Parsloe did a decent job narrating, though I much preferred her regular reading voice over Johnny's weird accent. The accent used for Shannon wasn't bad though. It wasn't anything that kept me from listening and I didn't find myself being distracted from his accent. I would definitely listen to more performances from her if she reads as she did when reading the regular narration though!

The story itself was sweet and I would definitely consider listening to more of Ms. Riva's books in the future. There is nothing at all that should offend even the most modest readers, and I can definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet, quick listen. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher for an honest review.

A Sweet Love Story

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

A light read that combines the values of a post WW II era, when immigration to the USA was still an aspiration and a dream. Shannon, the naive Scottish girl that has to learn to leave a life away from her family, finds her soulmate and happiness in Jimmy, an Italian-American boy whose family ties and values are just as strong.

An engaging story set in the breathtaking beauty of a natural park, brings us back to a nostalgic past still full of hopes and happy endings. The writing is excellent and the narration well executed.

Sweet romance with a touch of history

I loved the romance in this story, it was beautifully contrasted by the dating that Shannon's roommates were doing. I also really enjoyed the glimpse into life post WWII in both America and Scotland.

The narrator did a fantastic job with the accents and character voices and helped me fall in love with Johnny as much as Shannon did.

The setting was beautifully described and the whole story was enjoyable.

I haven't read the other books in the series but that didn't seem to matter, I will be adding them to my wish list though.

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Historical Romance

Any additional comments?

This was a lovely romance set just after WW2. The main character has come over from Scotland to start a new life for her family in Oregon. She has a job as a waitress at a lodge and meets a nice Italian American boy. It is a clean story with traditional family values.

Great Read

Always Kiss Me Goodbye was a great read by Renee Riva. Shannon immigrated to America in 1948 when she was twenty-one years old. She became a waitress at The Crater Lake National Park Lodge in Oregon. Johnny, an Italian bus boy, is returning for his third summer at the lodge. Johnny asks Shannon out on a date which begins their beautiful summer romance. I loved reading Shannon and Johnny's story and can't wait to read more by the author.
