Two Love Stories in One!

First off, the narration was excellent! Noah Wall does a wonderful job of differentiating the characters voices.

As for the story, I loved that we got two love stories in one and they couldn't be more different. Alene Wecker has given us complex characters with unusual love stories while staying true to the era. I loved this book and can't wait to read more from this author!

A tangled up web of romance

What a brilliantly darling comedy of errors!

Elisabeth becomes a single mother when her baby is born after her husband's passing and when her best friend dies, leaving a baby behind, a marriage of convenience is arranged. Or is it? Charlotte, Elisabeth's younger sister, has a whole slew of suitors, but a tangled up love triangle (or would it be love square?) arises when unforeseen circumstances occur.

I couldn't get enough of these delightful characters. Elisabeth is more serious, as she has much to lose in life and now has an infant to care for. Her relationship with Charlotte, a happy, charming girl, isn't the best, but they truly are at different stages of life. The shy and stuttering German, Sebastian, is a great addition to the story, and doctor Charles is the icing on the cake.

Wecker does a great job of throwing in a ball of yarn and untangling it in a realistic and more true-to-times way, showing how hard life could be back in the Regency times. I love her writing style and pacing, as well as the character development, and exploration and discovery of feelings.

Beautifully written and executed, this is a story for an Regency romance lover.

Content: mother dies in childbirth; mild romance

Complex Characters, Unexpected Storylines, and a Fabulous Narrator

I came into this book with little to no knowledge of the story and characters. Alene Wecker took a straightforward storyline and made it deep, engrossing, engaging, and complex!

Noah Wall has done a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life! Each character’s voice matched their personality and country of origin. Her interpretation made the journey beautiful and allowed for the listeners emotions to be recognized and felt. I will absolutely listen to other books narrated by her!

Elizabeth, a recent widow and expectant mother, is waiting to see if her child brings security or financial ruin. She has always done her part for the family: marrying well, taking care of the accounts and household, as well as being a proper older sister. Love is and has always been transactional for her.

Lottie, Elizabeth’s 17 year old sister and diamond of the first water, is a true romantic. She cannot fathom entering marriage unless true love is involved regardless of what her mother says. She is kind, thoughtful, self-less, and genuine. Being barraged by suitors is NOT what she wants. Especially when bad poetry is involved.

When a marriage of convenience is settled upon- both sisters are resigned to their fate. Which will win out in the end: a marriage of convenience or true love?

Clean, sweet Regency romance!

First, let me say this audiobook was excellent! The narrator was easy to listen to and did a wonderful job with all the different characters and voice inflections.

My favorite thing about this book was that we get double the romance! Sisters Elisabeth and Charlotte are both looking for husbands. Because of her circumstance, Elisabeth knows she must let convenience take precedence over love. However, Charlotte dreams of finding a love match. Both sisters will learn to open their hearts to new and unexpected possibilities.

I really loved all four main characters in this book. They are definitely put through the wringer in their journey to love. Some truly tragic moments that broke my heart reminding me how difficult life could be during this time period. This book was full of emotional highs and lows. But also many tender, sweet moments of love and hope.

The ending was a little long winded for me, but overall I found this book very enjoyable. I would definitely recommend it and the audiobook to all clean regency romance readers!

Thanks to the author for the complimentary audiobook. All thoughts are my own.

Loved it!

This book was a delight.
It was such a unique story. I was very quickly drawn in and felt invested in the lives of the characters.
I was a bit worried that this would end up being a super sad book, but it surprised me and left me feeling happy.
tThe narrator did a fabulous job- She even did pretty good male voices. I will admit that I do listen to audiobooks at a faster speed than normal but even at a fast speed it was well done. This book was well written and sweet. Can’t wait for more from this author!

Enjoyable Clean Romance

Forget about a love triangle this was more like a love pentagon! Two sisters looking for marriage or hoping for love. This was an enjoyable story but Elizabeth had me groaning at her character multiple times. I liked Charlotte’s story better but it almost seemed like a background story as the novel progresses. 3.5 stars

I loved this regency romance!

This is my first book I’ve listened to by Alene Wecker. I was blown away. She’s a fantastic storyteller and can capture the regency tone with finesse. I can’t wait to listen to her other regency book (I hope more is coming)! Her characters were interesting (flawed), and tugged at different elements of the regency era that I haven’t come across often. I enjoyed every minute of this book. The narration was splendid. This book has emotion and a quality plot line with a bigger cast of characters and POVs. It was well written and very enjoyable!
