About this listen

In the sordid streets of Victorian London, unwanted desire flares between two bitter enemies brought together by a deadly secret.

Crusading journalist Nathaniel Roy is determined to expose spiritualists who exploit the grief of bereaved and vulnerable people. First on his list is the so-called Seer of London, Justin Lazarus. Nathaniel expects him to be a cheap, heartless fraud. He doesn't expect to meet a man with a sinful smile and the eyes of a fallen angel - or that a shameless swindler will spark his desires for the first time in years.

Justin feels no remorse for the lies he spins during his séances. His gullible clients simply bore him. Hostile, disbelieving, utterly irresistible Nathaniel is a fascinating challenge. And as their battle of wills and wits heats up, Justin finds he can't stop thinking about the man who's determined to ruin him.

But Justin and Nathaniel are linked by more than their fast-growing obsession with one another. They are both caught up in an aristocratic family's secrets, and Justin holds information that could be lethal. As killers, fanatics, and fog close in, Nathaniel is the only man Justin can trust - and, perhaps, the only man he could love.

Great Read.

Loved this book. It was a very sweet love story wrapped in a violent mystery. This story is well written and the narrator does a fantastic job.

Looking for answers

I enjoyed this story. It had a lot of twists and turns and a most delightful ending.
It all started with looking for a set of twins. A sad man, a so called medium, and an uncanny parcel of friends. Justin the medium and Nathaniel the journalist looking for answers, ending up in a precarious situation.
Continue listening for the next installment of this story.

Believable with great flow and phenomenal performance.

I found The story hard to be invested in at times and then it would be drawn right back in wanting to know what’s going to happen next. I also found the relationship development to be quite believable and realistic, slow burn but good. In addition the ending definitely has closure with enough cliffhanger that makes me want to listen to the next installment of the story. I also found the writing to be quite fantastic and in my mind The vocabulary to be very reasonable for the time. I highly recommend the title as a good listen while performing a secondary activities. I listened To this title while at work and found it to be very satisfying.

But it is such fun! Minus the the level of creepy lol. I did enjoy this more than book 1. And I am excited to get into book 3.

The lovers are awesome!

I loved the narration, especially the deep voice of Nathaniel.

The story is very good, especially the parts about how Justin does his tricks in the seances.

I always love The Jack! Merry Christmas every one!

Sparks Fly in this Enemies to Lovers Tale!

I’m loving this series! I’m not sure why it took me so long to pick up the first book, since I had it on my Kindle app since it came out. Well, the lovely first book led me to immediately pick up this second novel in the series.

This second one had a very different feel than the first. Whereas An Unseen Attraction felt purposefully slow and measured like a slow drive through a lovely country lane, this one felt more like crossing an intersection at rush hour.

Nathaniel, the journalist who we briefly met in the previous book, is on a story seeking to defraud spiritualists and mediums. At his first seance he meets Lazarus, the Seer of London. Antagonistic does not even describe Nathaniel’s feelings towards Lazarus. But as much as he hates him, he’s the first man he’s felt attracted to since the death of his partner six years prior. Nathaniel is a good man; Lazarus is a liar.

Both however, get enmeshed in the tangled case of the missing earl discovered in the first book. Together, they escape attempts on their lives. No spoilers, the earl is found, but don’t expect him to be happy about it.

What I liked about this book was how the MCs antagonistic relationship served them in the bedroom. It made for a couple of very hot scenes. Lazarus had a huge arc in this book, and it didn’t feel trite, or misbegotten...how can you give a man a conscience in a matter of weeks when he’s never employed it? KJ Charles did a great job in opening him up.

And lastly, I love how the thick and greasy London fog is a character in this book. It’s almost tangible and affects the characters’ decisions and actions as much as another person would. Although the thought that fog could coat you in foul grease is beyond disturbing!

Great narration, although sometimes I had difficulty in distinguishing who was speaking.

I’m looking forward to the next book and hoping the murders is found at last. I have NO clue who it could be.

I Need Book 3 Now!

Audio book review. Narrator: Matthew Lloyd Davies

I am loving this series very much. I like how the second book is new and refreshing, yet ties into the first book with having some of the same characters.

The two main characters come together in a believable way, too - none of that 'falling in love at first sight' nonsense that so many m/m romance books use.

Can't wait for book 3 to be available as an audio book!

Great narrator

This performer is stellar! I never had trouble differentiating between a whole lot of male characters, but I never felt like they were too caricatured, either. Bravo!
