Informative, Direct, and Short

Overall, this was a short, easy listen. I would argue this book can serve as a starting point for individuals who are curious about how their communication and anxiety styles might manifest in their relationships. It does read like a textbook, so be ready for direct and sometimes jargon-heavy language. My one complaint about the audiobook would have to do with the occasional quizzes. I’m sure they’re easy to take with a physical copy, but I found myself skipping through them.

A Guide to Anxious Attachment

Anxious attachment is a common attachment style that shapes relationships, self-esteem, and overall well-being in how they relate to themselves and others. This book helps readers to gain clarity and insight into anxious attachment styles and explores other types of attachment styles to understand their impact on relationships in general, and then provides practical steps to overcome the anxiety, become securely attached, and learn how to develop and maintain healthy connections.

When you are securely attached to yourself and others, there is a sense of security within yourself and your relationships that is cultivated through kindness, compassion, and empathy. Empathy is so crucial for healing anxious attachment by connecting with your own emotions as well as those of your partner. When you are in tune with yourself, learning to let go of things that aren't serving us and opening up to adapt to healthy changes don't feel so challenging or scary because we have learned to feel safe within ourselves. When we have this security, we no longer view others or the world through an anxious lens, which is life changing.

a very good book

I really like the book because it was written from a personal perspective, it seems. The book was very informative and interesting. I learned so much about myself as to why I react and behave the way I do. It’s always a nice feeling reading and simply knowing others go through the same experience as me. It makes me feel like I’m not alone. My favorite part was learning the different forms of emotional regulation, especially when you’re anxious and triggered.

Common sense tips on help with anxious attachment

This book could be a helpful tool in the toolbox for anyone having issues with trust in relationships that may be due to childhood trauma.
Alejandra starts out defining anxious attachment, as it limits our worthiness of love and trust. Throughout the book, she gives examples of tying childhood trauma to anxiety and insecurity within relationships. She then gives us useful common sense advice to help us let go of attachments that hold us back.

Overall, this book is definitely worth reading for anyone who wants to work on these relationship issues. However, I did not find the quizzes to be useful, especially because I was listening to the audiobook and not in a position to write down the numbers. I think many people might find a workbook to be helpful if they wish to spend time with these healing exercises.

She also describes various mindfulness meditation techniques, which I find to be more helpful than the quizzes.

This is a great book for beginners!

This was an eye-opening experience for me. I've always been interested in attachment styles but I was honestly confused at the same time. There were times when I though well maybe I don't have an attachment style? And there were times where I thought I had all of them lol but this book broke each attachment style down so well and it also explains where you may have got it from. I learned that I am inconsistent attachment style and it makes sense because I come from very inconsistent parents who ended up abandoning me eventually. Anyway, amazing book and I'm excited to discuss my new observations with my therapist.

This was a really good map for myself and my relationship

I totally loved this book! What intrigued me the most was finding out my attachment style and having conversations with my partner about theirs. This has been eye opening and has served as a roadmap for both of us to accept our conditioning and work together.
