About this listen

A new novel in John Ringo's best-selling Black Tide Rising series by Nebula- and Dragon Award-nominated author Charles E. Gannon.

Castaways in a zombie plague

Six kids ranging from suburban geeks to street-smart pariahs. A British captain who rarely talks and never smiles. All on the 70-foot pilothouse ketch Crosscurrent Voyager, bound on a senior summer cruise to adventure and serious fun.

Except most of the kids don’t get along. And they’ll be gone all summer. And none of them have sailed before. And worst of all - because they booked at the last minute - they got the destination nobody else wanted: the frigid and remote South Georgia Islands.

But there’s one other hitch: They’ll never see their families or friends again. Because just days after they leave, a plague starts spreading like wildfire, turning most of its survivors into shrieking, cannibalistic rage-monsters. So with their past dying as fast as the world that shaped it, the kids’ hated destination becomes their one hope for survival.

But it’s an uncertain hope. Not only are other hostile survivors headed there, but South Georgia Island is unable to support permanent habitation. So if the strange crew of the Voyager doesn’t come up with a further plan, they are - in every sense - heading straight toward the end of the world.

Teens, Zombie Apocalypse, South Atlantic

Another great addition to the "Black Tide Rising" series. I never give spoilers. I enjoyed following the character development and the way the teens had to deal with each other while dealing with mind boggling challenges. As a "spoiled" USA citizen that hasn't done much traveling abroad, I enjoyed having to do research on the various locations of the South Atlantic. The stories were both engaging and enjoyable. Tristan Morris does an excellent job of narration. Looking forward to the next book.

A marvelous foray

This is a excellent journey through unexplored territory in the Black Tide Rising series. If you loved the original books then you'll love this.

Another cool Story in the Black Tide universe.

I was skeptical, with this being written by Charles E. Gannon rather than John Ringo, and while I don't think Gannon (in these books) is quite as good as Ringo (who just seems to be (as appropriate since he created the series) a bit more in touch w/ the nuances, especially ironic and surreal moments of living in zombie apocalypse. Tristan Morris does a great job with the narration as well. I look forward to this series continuing.

One extremely minor quibbling note to the author: people do not get 'punch drunk' off Ketosis. Full blown Ketoacidosis maybe, but not just being in a state of Ketosis. Being in a state of dietary Ketosis, and becoming Keto Adapted actually imparts a clarity of thought to many people. Even under the conditions describe, it would take a major effort to get into ketoacidosis - it's a state thats almost impossible for a healthy person to achieve. Furthermore - there is no such thing as 'an essential carbohydrate'. yes there are vitamins and minerals to be gleaned from a diverse diet, but they can usually be found in leafy greens and non-starchy vegetables, cruciferous vegetables - and in a survival situation - i would expect they could be had from organ meats. While there could (in a survival situation as described) certainly be some malnutrition due to nutrient loss, there would be nothing near or even resembling a state of starvation as long as they could get their calories in. Maybe do some research on this next time rather than perpetuating myths and misunderstanding of the science.

Great addition to the Black Tide Rising Universe

Great story, great character development. Charles Gannon makes a pretty solid contribution to the Black Tide Rising Universe surprisingly consistent with Ringo’s original vision and delivery. Hope they keep expanding on this universe since it’s some of the best zombie apocalypse writing out there.

GREAT addition to BTR! Where is Ringo?!?!?

GREAT addition to the "Black Tide Rising" Universe!
Charles E. Gannon stepped in and he's BANGIN IT! ...and book 8 is even better! THANK YOU for picking up the ball Mr. Gannon... I had JUST convinced myself that this series was going to be another "Ringo Dangler".

Your narration is, as usual, AWESOME, Tristan!

Now.. "Where is John"?
C'mon Bro, add to, and maybe even FINISH, a few of your books in your past series' for us! Most of your best story-lines are just hangin out there, dangling, seemingly forgotten.

Nice side story of John Ringos end times

This book made a nice side story to the series, but where is Ringo? I was expecting these new characters to meet up with the other characters in the series, but that never happened. Dissapointing. it would have been cool if a sub rose up with their friends in it.
I missed Ringo's snarky humor.

True to the series

Unlike some of the short stories this book is very true to Ringo's first four books. Looking forward to book 8.
