"My life, as you will read, has taken me from one cult to another. BRAVE is the story of how I fought my way out of these cults and reclaimed my life. I want to help you do the same." (Rose McGowan)
A revealing memoir and empowering manifesto - a voice for generations
Rose McGowan was born in one cult and came of age in another, more visible cult: Hollywood.
In a strange world where she was continually on display, stardom soon became a personal nightmare of constant exposure and sexualization. Rose escaped into the world of her mind, something she had done as a child, and into high-profile relationships. Every detail of her personal life became public, and the realities of an inherently sexist industry emerged with every script, role, public appearance, and magazine cover. The Hollywood machine packaged her as a sexualized bombshell, hijacking her image and identity and marketing them for profit.
Hollywood expected Rose to be silent and cooperative and to stay the path. Instead, she rebelled and asserted her true identity and voice. She reemerged unscripted, courageous, victorious, angry, smart, fierce, unapologetic, controversial, and real as f--k.
BRAVE is her raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto - a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, and unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.
Includes two original songs by Rose McGowan.

While I don't fully agree with all the political stances this author holds- I now understand a little better why she holds them. I also see that this human acknowledges that she is an ever-changing work in progress, as we all are. Refreshing from a Hollywood-ite.
It has taken immense bravery to tell this story, and to LIVE the life she believes is right. Rose, I am now a fan- your creativity and artistry is truth.
Extremely Candid, Thoughtful

No doubts that being a young, pretty thing with ambition is fated to be chewed and spat out as you leave the the door to welcome another feast to be eaten on your way out.
Rose McGowan, a 90’s indie darling, a rebel, someone who was used and abused by every male in her life and was discarded by equally every woman in her life, still resilient and radiant as she tells her story from it bleak origins to it current post “me too.” Era.
Many of the director and producers she mentions were later reviled to be predators man children.
Many who are viewed as Heroes and radicals in the field of films and art; it isn’t too surprising when you pay a little attention to how they treat everyone else in the stage and behind the scene, but even more so behind closed doors, as we knew from the countless confessions from survivors before Rose wrote her book.
Being a survivor isn’t easy, it’s a matter that you must live through it for as long as you live; and to be able to retell it, to re-open the scraps and reveals the wounds for all to see, is brave; matter of fact, true bravery.
Believe the victims until evidences says otherwise, believe their stories because not all of them are told, believe them
Because to live with such weighty wound is unbearable and honestly, kills you slowly; and life is worth more than to suffer for someone’s crime.
Bravo, Rose.

I'm not sure what I expected when I purchased this book. I was\am a Charmed fan, so yes I knew who Rose was when I started the book, or so I thought.
What this book did was open my eyes to the strength of the woman behind the starlet. She has survived so much more than just Hollywood, she's endured a horrible childhood with zero stability or responsible adult to protect her as a child. She has grown into a woman that has forgiven her father his abuses. That takes powerful strength.
I did not look at the reviews before hitting the purchase button. I was sure there would be controversial pages that would leave some readers angry and bitter and I wanted to make my own opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of people that say she is just a bitter women, she's playing the blame game blah blah same as any celebrity that has spoken out. We know that it's a man's world. This is NOT news, this is NOT a surprise. Is she angry? Absolutely without a doubt. Does she have a reason to be HELL YES! But what she does not do is the name shame game. She does not name the”monster” yes we know who he is. Another one is referenced as RR, again we know who he is but she's not making it obvious. I have great respect for how she treated the abusers. She did it with more dignity than they gave her and many other young women while treating them like a piece of meat.
While talking about the boys club of Hollywood she also takes blame on herself, not that it's her fault she was raped but that she allowed society and the thought of losing a paycheck keep her from using her voice. And in doing so lost her voice all together. That in itself is a huge message. If women who have the power to influence and be a voice of change feel powerless to speak up about rape or not report it how do we expect the girl next door, the lil wall flower or the scared housewife to speak up and report? Think about that for a moment, let that just sit there and sink in for a moment.
This is a book of courage. It's a book of a journey they hell to rise stronger. I wish this book would open some eyes and make the changes that need to be made but I fear it will not be taken as seriously as it should. I fear there are not enough eyes that will be opened with this book.
If I'm lucky enough for Rose to read my review, the one thing I would want her to know is she is a strong beautiful woman, not for her looks on the outside but just for who she is. Though I'm sad she went thru the hell she has, like a phoenix she has risen a stronger soul. I hope to see where she goes from here. From where I sit I believe she can and will do wonderful things in the future.
5 out of 5 stars and at thank you for the blunt candidness and emotional pain you went thru all over again just by telling your story.
Maybe a bit more than you expected
