About this listen
Barry reveals, for the first time, the secret chant for painless childbirth. He also reveals why no secret chant could possibly take a woman's mind off the fact that she is in such pain, that she wants a gigantic comet to crash into the earth and kill her and her husband and the doctor and the nurses and everyone else in the world.

An uproariously funny examination of what one generation can teach to another - or not - from the Pulitzer Prize winner and New York Times - best-selling author of You Can Date Boys When You're Forty and Insane City. We never know what will happen next in Florida. We know only that, any minute now, something will. Every few months, Dave Barry gets a call from some media person wanting to know, "What the hell is wrong with Florida?" Somehow, the state's acquired an image as a subtropical festival of stupid, and as a loyal Floridian, Dave begs to differ. Sure, there was the 2000 election. And people seem to take their pants off for no good reason. And it has flying insects the size of LeBron James. But it is a great state, and Dave is going to tell you why.

Story
Lucas knows the perfect night entails just three things: video games, wine, and pad thai. Peanuts are a must! Other people? Not so much. Why complicate things when he’s happy alone? Then one day the apartment board, a vexing trio of authority, rings his doorbell. And Lucas’s solitude takes a startling hike. They demand to see his frying pan. Someone left one next to the recycling room overnight, and instead of removing the errant object, as Lucas suggests, they insist on finding the guilty party. But their plan backfires. Colossally.

A bad best man’s speech can ruin a wedding. Why do we plan every detail of a perfect day and then give the groom’s idiot best friend five minutes of total power? Enter Nate (Glen Powell), a speechwriter-for-hire who helps people write incredible best man speeches. To keep the best man from embarrassing himself (and the newlyweds), Nate uses his list of don’ts: Don’t mention the exes, don’t be rated R, and don’t bum everyone out. Nate’s system never fails. That is, until he meets Dan (Nicholas Braun).

Story
Alice's journey begins as all good journeys do: hitting on the sales guy at REI. After a tumultuous breakup, a quick career transition, family upheaval, and a sobriety journey that didn't fix her life quite as much as she expected it to, Alice decides that the only way to solve all her problems is to hike the Pacific Crest Trail. But as she begins preparing for the months-long quest, she realizes the answers she's seeking might not be on top of a snow-covered mountain. Especially since she just learned there was snow in California.

I smiled a lot!
This is a short piece, 1 ½ hours. I’ve heard these things before, but it’s fun to hear Dave’s take. Example: a baby’s purpose in life is filling diapers and putting disgusting things in his mouth.
Audiobook narrator Arte Johnson was good.
Genre: humorous essays

Somewhat Funny, Generally Amusing, but Not Great
I'm lukewarm about Dave Barry books, which have been a hit or miss to me, but this one is more of a hit than a miss.
It is over pretty quickly, made me laugh enough times, and was generally amusing. Its not a comedy spectacular. But it kept my interest during 2-3 days of dog walks and was never a chore to listen to. It felt like it was over too soon, a good sign. But I find it hard to make a strong recommendation about it.

Poor Quality
This is a hilarious book that I think is read quite well, however the recording quality is extremely poor. The sound goes in and out and at best is very quiet. A real disappointment.
