Baby Proof

Emily Griffin

From the author of the smash hits Something Borrowed and Something Blue comes an audio novel that explores the question: is there ever a deal-breaker when it comes to true love?

First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes . . . a baby carriage? Isn't that what all women want?

Not so for Claudia Parr. And just as she gives up on finding a man who feels the same way, she meets warm, wonderful Ben. Things seem too good to be true when they fall in love and agree to buck tradition with a satisfying, child-free marriage. Then the unexpected occurs: one of them has a change of heart. One of them wants children after all.

This is the witty, heartfelt story about what happens to the perfect couple when they suddenly want different things. It's about feeling that your life is set and then realizing that nothing is as you thought it was--and that there is no possible compromise. It's about deciding what is most important in life, and taking chances to get it. But most of all, it's about the things we will do—and won't do—for love.

Critic reviews

“Cynthia Nixon is the perfect choice to narrate…[Baby Proof] unfolds like an extended Sex and the City episode and deals with may of the same issues that the series' beloved TV characters faced during six years of shoe shopping and martini swigging in Manhattan. Nixon succeeds brilliantly...” —Publishers Weekly

“The youthful voice of reader Cynthia Nixon, an Emmy winner for her role in Sex and the City, effortlessly conveys complex emotions...Because the themes invite discussion, this is a 'chick' book that both hens and roosters might enjoy together.” —Dallas Morning News

An OK listen

This book delves into the theme of whether or not to become a parent. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the ending leaves you hanging which was frustrating. It's an OK listen. The characters are interesting but could have been explored with a little more depth. The problems encountered by the main character and her sisters did hold my attention but I did get a little annoyed with their reactions - they seemed flighty to me. Overall, an easy and intersting listen but not as challenging or deep as it could have been.

substantial though still on the bright side!

Difficult topic but nothing too challenging, entertaining story. The narrator did a good job. Recommendable.

Loved This!

Such a good story for women of this age. I think women of all backgrounds can take something from this book. Whether you are a women in question of having a baby, an individual with issues in your relationship, or a woman who doesn't understand other women who don't want children, or if you are just in the mood for a good story to listen to. In the end its a tale of true love conquering all, and ultimately a strong case for compromise. I learned something for my own life, a story quite parallel to this one. The performance was great too, I love the way Cynthia Nixon brought the story to life.

Just Okay

Having been the 3rd book of Emily Giffin's that I have purchased, I was disappointed...The really liked her first book, "Something Borrowed" but this I found didn't hold my interest.
Maybe it would for you if you were going throught the internal battle of whether you wanted to have kids or not.
It really didn't hold my interest. Although Cynthia Nixon is a GREAT narrator.
