Publisher's summary

Nothing ever goes right for her. When she finds the courage to support a colleague, will she be redeemed or destroyed?

Ruby is her own worst enemy. Showing great empathy for others, the floundering real estate agent masks lingering childhood trauma with poor decisions, inappropriate sexual encounters, and doormat-like behaviors. And when she stands up for the office receptionist, she inadvertently triggers a backlash that sends her reeling.

Desperate to undo the damage, Ruby struggles to understand why her choices always backfire. But when her interest in a handsome neighbor is rewarded first with love, then more abuse, the anxious survivor battles her instincts to believe this is just how things are.

Will Ruby finally find the happiness she deserves?

With an intimate look inside the pain of complex PTSD, author Irina Ember paints a sympathetic and insightful portrait of a person unable to enforce boundaries. As the listener roots for Ruby to recognize and advocate for her own needs, they will come to a greater understanding of how the ghosts of the past are difficult to dispel. Bad Agency is a poignant novel. If you like real-world characters, emotional journeys, and the genuine challenge of self-healing, then you’ll adore this captivating drama. A raw, revelatory novel about the ways trauma can shape a life.

True to life

Residing and working in San Francisco as a real estate agent, I found myself deeply affected by the candidness and vulnerability of Irina in 'Bad Agency.' Her story resonates with authenticity, a rare gem in a society where many conceal the aspects of themselves deemed unacceptable. This narrative is a refreshing departure from the norm, highlighting the importance of honesty in our increasingly opaque world.

Bad Agency is Good

I’m not gonna lie, this book is dark. What is does is remind you that everyone has a story. We are complex creatures. The main character takes you on a journey, and it’s through her lense that we are reminded to have empathy towards each other. I found myself rooting for her the whole way. It’s also a great example of how psychedelics have a very necessary and relevant place in therapy. I’m bummed her “friend” gets a chapter, but overall really enjoyed this book.
